The Olympic House is a clean, nicely-decorated, vacation rental that once existed as a motel office. The motel rooms have been converted to “cottages”. Once inside the Olympic House, there are no signs that you are actually in a former roadside motel. Instead, you are in a comfy home with well thought-out decor and a kitchen stocked with all of the tools that you will need for your stay.
When the host describes the Olympic House as “right off Highway 101”, it is a very accurate description. Cars and trucks traveling 60+ mph can be heard 24/7 making it difficult to get a good night of sleep while staying in the house. When lying in any one of the beds, you are physically approximately 80 feet from the Highway 101. Earplugs are generously provided on every bedside table.
The discomfort of not sleeping well while staying in this house was alleviated by the beauty of Olympic National Park, the well-stocked kitchen (thank you for the Peet’s coffee), and the friendliness of the hosts and the staff at Granny’s Cafe.
If I could do it all over again, I would stay just two nights rather than four. It’s disappointing to go on vacation and return home feeling exhausted.
