The Lilac Cottage was as close to perfect as any rental we've ever stayed in! We have a large blended family that includes our adult children with their spouses and 3 grandchildren, and we just loved our time there last week! I look forward to renting this property again soon!
PROS: The vintage charm of the inside will leave you fondly remembering family vacations of your own childhood while having all the updates and technology of today, not the least of which are AC, WiFi, and three flat screen TVs with a gazillion channels and access to Netflix! The kitchen is fully stocked and its appliances, including the dishwasher, are new. The owner has even provided a Keurig with k-cups in addition to a regular coffee pot for those relaxing mornings on the patio overlooking the lake, and there is an industrial sized refrigerator for beverages and overflow as well as a big, new washer/dryer set in the basement as soon as you walk in and a gas grill and picnic table on the patio beside the house on the lake side!
The apartment sized room in the basement was fantastic for our oldest grandson and his cousin. The adults shared the king size bed and the boys each had their own twin plus a family room area with a big flat screen TV where they played video games when they tired of being with the adults and babies. We called them the "cave dwellers" because at 10 and 12, they were usually tired of us so spent a lot of time in their "cave", but because the room is downstairs, this grandma didn't need to see or stress about the messes they made and it was all cleaned up before they left!
CONS: (These are NOT complaints! As I stated in the beginning, this was the best place we have rented over the years, but each family is unique so I provide the following as feedback for those multigenerational groups with little ones like us looking to rent.) The biggest disappointment was the lack of beach, but I have rented on Sand Point for many years now and know how the water levels fluctuate from year-to-year. We were still able to access the water using a ladder and enjoyed floating on rafts and taking the kayaks out. The backyard (roadside) is better for small children due to the steep stairs and drop offs from the patios to the water and cement boathouse pad in the front yard. We made the best of things though and used a small inflatable kiddie pool for our two youngest grandchildren and played some mean games of wiffle ball in the private drive off the main road!
