My wife and I live in Athens with our two teenage daughters, one dog and two cats. I own an electrical and mechanical engineering firm and my wife is a writer who holds a doctorate in tourism management. About ten years ago we visited Kea and fell in love with it at first sight. The island has a unique charm and beauty yet is so close to Athens that its hard to believe that it hasn't as yet been overrun by tourists. Fabulous beaches are within short walking distance of our cottages and nature trails dot the island. There are also interesting ruins in the area that date to antiquity. Kea, also known by the name Tzia, is a different and slightly mysterious island. It is cosmopolitan, serene and peaceful at the same time, as well as rich in attractions, thanks to its long history at the cross-roads of Mediterranean life and its well-preserved archaeological sites. Kea is also blessed with an uncommon natural beauty and fabulous beaches, not to mention its famous walking paths. The more one gets to know Kea, the more one falls in love with it. The island’s inland and seaside beauty gradually engulf the senses and one becomes bewitched by its charm. Perhaps its best feature is that it lies only one hour by ferry away from the port of Lavrion, just a short drive south of Athens’ Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport.
