We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this historic property. It’s off the beaten track, but the peace and quiet is your reward for getting there. The view to the Bristol Channel from the garden and kitchen window, meant you spent your time watching clouds rolling past or boats going up and down. It gave us a good base to visit parts of Somerset and North Devon.

We loved it, but you’ll have to be prepared for a bumpy ride to find this hidden gem. The property has everything provided and is very comfortable as per previous reviews.

Just a wonderful place to stay.

This cottage has one of the best views you’ll get anywhere. It is so quiet and peaceful and the cottage so comfortable and easy. You really can relax. Jeremy and his wife are such lovely friendly people. We’ll be back for sure.

Beautiful, quiet retreat

Beautiful cottage with a lovely feeling of being in the middle of nowhere. Wonderfully quiet and peaceful and the views were even better than we had hoped. The cottage was well-equipped with everything we could have wished for and Jeremy was the perfect host.

A perfect location to get the head clear

Stay was perfect everything well organized. The view along the fields to the Bristol Canal fantastic, Good for trip to nearby Selworthy and Porlock. Hiking trips from the house possible

Spectacular place

We had a wonderful holiday in this lovely place. The quietness, the nature, the spectular view at the landscape and the sea and a cosy home. Thank you Paivi and Jeremy for being our very and helpful hosts. and regards to the "boys".

Lovely quiet place to stay

We really enjoyed our stay here. The location was ideal for us and our dogs with lots of lovely walks close by . It was very peaceful with lovely views. Parking was very easy and communication from the owner was great. The cottage was really cosy and had everything we needed . The owner was very friendly and helpful and our son enjoyed playing table tennis on the table provided in the garage when the weather wasn’t so good.

What a stunning and peaceful location

We had a fantastic holiday in this beautiful, cosy and comfortable cottage. The off the beaten track location was breathtaking and so peaceful. It was perfect for escaping, but also great for exploring wonderful Exmoor and beyond. Jeremy and Paivi were also wonderful hosts, and our schnauzer Rubie loved meeting their resident schnauzers too! We had such a fantastic holiday, one of our best!

DDelightful Accomodation in a beautiful setting.

No previous experience of renting a holiday property so probably not as smooth as it would otherwise have been.Well worth the initial anxiety though.

Wonderful 4 day break

Wonderful views from cottage, and many beautiful walks all on the land of the owner Jeremy, who was a great host, very friendly and was there to help if needed . Cottage is clean and beds comfortable. Very quiet and peaceful. We will return. Our dog had a great time too. Thank you Jeremy.

Jeremy's family have been in the house since 1949! Today, Jeremy & Paivi Payne have been refining their holiday properties for several years, and are still trying to improve every week and year! After many good years with Cottages 4 You and Welcome Holidays, we're finally in a position to run and man the house for ourselves!

Jeremy is a former advertising copywriter and Paivi is a teacher. They have travelled extensively and worked for many years in Hong Kong. They are accompanied most of the time by the noisy Wooster, a miniature Schnauzer, and their troupe of chickens. Whatever you need to know about walks, restaurants and other local stuff, if we're around we're always happy to tell you! Oh, and you can order freshly baked bread and home made marmalade for breakfast from us, too!

It may be remote for some, but we absolutely love living up and away on the hill, far from the madding crowd. It can be wild in Winter, but that's part of it's charm, coming home to a warm supper and a cosy fire. In Summer, Exmoor can be almost breathtakingly beautiful - it's surely British tourism's best kept secret. Maybe it's time you discovered it for yourself!
