The property was a working dairy farm, a throw-back to the middle ages when I bought it in 1989, gites 2&3 were cattle barns complete with cows!
It's location and potential we're fantastic, having oak beams, stone walls and country aspect, yet near beaches and the wonderful historic town of La Roche Bernard, which enchanted me after my first views while driving over the suspension bridge. I knew instantly this was the place for me after spending month's looking around other areas of France.
The benefits of this property were that it is at the end of a lane, surrounded by fields, meadows, country lanes for cycling and walking. We had small children with us and we felt it was safe for them to play and explore without the worry of passing traffic and there is enough land to play football etc. without annoying anybody.
I knew the river was good for fishing and there was a good golf course nearby, plus all the local attractions highlighted earlier.
There are many fine restaurants, and eateries to suite everyone nearby.
Being a musician I've enjoyed the live music which appears regularly in the beautifully restored theatre (now a brassiere/bar) Sarah B.(after Sarah Bernhart) and other bars around the towns and villages. Indeed I've made many friends, and they are always there to help.
