Unusual accommodation in a beautiful location

Really unusual place to stay but also really comfortable with lots of charm. Two good sized bedrooms with en-suite plus living-room, well-equipped kitchen and space to eat or bbq outside. The location is the best thing about it though - lovely view, very peaceful and plenty of wildlife around. Sudeley Castle is also a great place to visit - highly recommended.

Faultless

We stayed with friends and had a fabulous time, the gatehouse was just as described, clean, tidy with everything necessary for our stay. We are planning a visit to the Cotswolds again and this will certainly be our base. Loved it! It also gives you free entry to the castle which is well worth a visit. Just a tip for future residents, I suggest you keep the gate closed at all times because we had two Americans knock at the door to look round and the day after two Japanese visitors. They were all very understanding but by closing the gate it saves the embarrassment. I guess we could have shown them round, made a drink and charged the £20. Overall a cracking stay.

Christmas Vacation

Absolutely stunning place ! The walk on the caste grounds is great, Winchcombe is a lovely village. Plenty of sightseeing at the Cotswolds. We will be revisiting this accommodation.

It was so lovely to stay on the castle grounds, giving us the ability to walk the beautiful property whenever we wanted. The gatehouse was cosy. There were nice welcoming items like tea and hot chocolate.

General praise

All good. Plenty of kitchen utensils. High quality sheets and towels. Enough coffee pods. Wonder if some sort of hand rail, maybe rope, could be fixed to the steps leading down to the bathroom for safety reasons. It felt quite precarious when half asleep. Very much enjoyed our short stay and very impressed with the cast,e and grounds. Everyone welcoming.

A special place

Brilliant location within easy walking distance of the castle and village. Toiletries provided and plenty of towels and a nice welcome pack of essentials like milk, teabags etc. The gatehouse was spotlessly clean and provided a comfortable stay.

Lovely unique accommodation

The Gatehouse was perfect for our stay. With one bedroom with en-suite on the ground floor it made it easy for our elderly parents to enjoy the place and surroundings. So long as whomever uses the second bedroom and bathroom can navigate narrow stairs, some without hand rails, this is a fantastically placed accommodation for exploring the Cotswolds and nearby attractions, especially Sudeley Castle.

The most beautiful stay in the Cotswolds

Excellent stay in a real castle gatehouse. Very nice to walk to the castle to get some history of England. Every day a lot of people walk by with their dogs and all in a tranquille setting with birds of prey in the air. Everything you need is in the gatehouse.

The castle gatehouse

We stayed at the property for two nights . What a stunning building the gatehouse is . It feels very private and we had glorious weather so could enjoy the outside space . The beds in particular are super comfortable. It’s a perfect base for the castle and gardens .also great for the town of Winchcombe . The property staff were also very helpful .

A beautiful property in a beautiful location.

We stayed at the property for 2 nights and it was just perfect. It seems the property has recently been renovated as everything looked very fresh. The interior design was beautiful and everything was very nicely presented. Although the living room would benefit from a second couch (in my opinion). Especially, if you stay longer and bad weather keeps you inside. There was coffee, tea, milk and a selection of jams which was very welcoming. The locations is perfect, walking distance to the town and the castle. If I will ever come to the Cotswolds again, I'll definitely stay at the Gate House again

Stay at Castle Gatehouse

Wonderful stay in the Castle Gatehouse over Easter, celebrating my 60th Birthday with friends. Four of us stayed, beds were comfortable, great location, we enjoyed our free visit to the Castle & Gardens which are well worth a visit. Walking distance to some nice pubs in Winchcombe, and enjoyed some lovely walks around the surrounding area. During our stay we had a problem with one of the smoke alarms, we called the number provided and maintenance visited with half an hour, most impressed.

Such an unusual property!

We spent a lovely two nights at the Castle Gatehouse. It’s such an unusual property and so close to Winchcombe and Sudeley Castle, yet in quiet isolation. Absolutely everything you could wish for is provided at the Gatehouse and the inclusion of free admission to the Castle is a bonus. It’s a beautiful place to visit and just along a path that leads directly from the Gatehouse.

Trip cut short but great service

We loved our stay at the Castle Gatehouse but unfortunately it was cut short because the boiler broke and a part could not be sourced, so we only stayed one night rather than three. Cannot fault the customer service from Bolthole Retreats, the maintenance man came to us within 10 minutes on a Sunday morning but unfortunately there was nothing he could do. We were moved to another, larger, property down the road within the hour. We would certainly come back to stay at the Gatehouse again as the location is great and it is such a novelty to stay in an unusual property like this. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was nice. Our only suggestions for improvement would be more comfortable living room furniture and some more surfaces in the bathroom on which to stand toiletry bags etc (I am sure such a large bathroom could accommodate a table or shelves somehow!).

Gorgeous place to stay for our wedding weekend

Great location, could walk to and from the castle. Close to our other booked accommodations (14 vineyard st and almsbury farmhouse). Good parking. Love the back garden it was lovely to have drinks in the evening. Avoid if you have accessibility issues! I also didn't realise bedroom #2 was not accessible from the main part of the building with bedroom #1, something to think about if you have children. You need to go outside to access. Great amenities, clear instructions. Really nice bathroom and comfy bed.
