We had a wonderful week at the end of August, 2012, on Pork Chop Island. Burntside Lake is beautiful, clean, undeveloped, and full of little, rocky islands like Pork Chop Island. The cabin was extremely comfortable and very much in keeping with its surroundings. It was clean and fully stocked with all the equipment we needed to cook up a storm. While the outhouse was no one’s favorite place there is a great shower indoors so we were happy. If anything, the cabin and island are even nicer than pictured on the website.
The owner and property manager were very easy to work with and great at answering any questions we had. There were no notes with lists of "don't" s that you sometimes see. It felt like we were staying at a friend’s home that we would take care of and respect, not a rental property, which was very nice.
The pictures can’t convey the fresh air and the sounds of nature we enjoyed. It is difficult to find a place these days where you can’t hear a lot of man made sounds; neighbors, traffic and airplanes. We loved sitting outside at night and hearing only the crickets and loons and seeing no lights from other cabins. We saw a few boats, heard the occasional voice from across the lake, but it was very unobtrusive. All this while still having running water, electricity, and window screens. There is a TV but we decided to pretend it wasn’t there so didn’t turn it on. It was wonderful being able to turn an eleven year old girl and a dog loose in the morning and not having to worry about either of them, knowing they could wander and daydream all they wanted and not get into too much trouble. Unfortunately, there aren’t many places you can do that.
