Your comments are misleading and inaccurate. Most of our furniture is new with a few family period pieces. All mattresses were bought new for this house and are less than 5 years old. The property was clean, aired and had been used all summer by guests who detected no smells. Indeed, the only smell we have detected was the strong smell of dog in an unaired house on your departure! Fortunately we had some free days immediately after your departure and were able to clean and air the house so this did not spoil the enjoyment of others. Until now we have found all our dog owning visitors very considerate in using the many country lanes within a few minutes’ walk to exercise their pets, and also in keeping the house aired to prevent the build-up of smells. Our normal policy is one small dog only, you asked to bring two and we agreed to this without making an additional charge. Our property description and photos are quite clear about the limited external space, which is intended as an internal sitting out space, not an exercise area for dogs. The carrot cake was bought from our very reliable local artisan bakery on the day you arrived. We should no doubt also have checked the best before date for reassurance (it was for the day before your arrival) but you were under no obligation to make use of our gift. In fact, you did not even open it to check the freshness, so we were able to do so a week later when it was still moist fresh and delicious!
