Our 3 generation, 15 person family stayed at River Ridge Lodge during a very hot and humid early July week that included several torrential downpours. We had 5 families with 6 tweens/teens; 7 adults mostly in our 50s; and my parents in their 80s. We are grateful for Lana the property manager, who helped make my parent's dream vacation a reality. The large lodge is situated on an immense, extremely private, heavily wooded, and hilly piece of land that is surrounded by a creek/river by 3 sides, just like the description states. There is a huge flat area down the hill and ridge next to the water where you can have a fire or pass a ball or look for rocks or take a stroll to look for the waterfall across the water. Toward the lodge is a modern, clean outdoor bathhouse and a couple of nice cabins. Inside the lodge there is a large kitchen and table, a sitting area, and a huge, finished basement that everyone in our family enjoyed. The furnishings and beds were comfortable although some dining chairs sagged (we thought it was funny and part of the experience). All of the bathrooms, bed linens and the kitchen were very clean. We did not see any cobwebs mentioned in another review, and, despite its location literally in the woods (and humid), we didn't see bugs in the house. You need to bring your own towels, soaps etc. There are 2 clothes washers and dryers and excellent air conditioning for hot days. We were able to use the brand new gas grill outside (thanks Lana!) and their wood for the firepit. Talk about super luxurious "glamping"! Sitting on the porch, we could sit under the trees (and stars at night), hear the sound of the rushing water, watch butterflies, do yoga, read books or whatever, and still have wifi if we wanted (which the teens did)! There are many stores nearby to get starter (dry) firewood, food and repellent. Because of the heavy rainfall, the hilly driveway was bumpy in a couple places despite the new gravel Lana had just put down and graded. For being just a few minutes from a highway and 20 minutes from Asheville, and yet in a very private and serene location (no highway sounds), we highly recommend this lodge for a family vacation.
