This was our 5th stay in Watersound in as many years, and this was our personal worst.
The good: The home was like another property we stayed at on SaltBox. The stackable w/d was nice, and it was convenient to have 4 Full bathrooms. The Golf cart is a must being that far from the beach and pools.... an added bonus for renters.
The bad: The cleanliness of the property. During our stay, my 4 year old cut his foot with glass pieces found in the house. Additionally, there was broken glass on the property itself (beer bottles). We found other discrepencies like towels with holes in it and cobwebs all over the place.
The TV in the master bedroom was out. That section of Watersound had a lot of construction. The noise was unpleasant, and the workers lounging around the close common areas was unpleasant.
The kid supply rental co we used was not allowed to enter the property to set up the cribs and high chairs. This caused an exit issue. Initially, this was not a problem, but turned into an issue later.
The Ugly: Dealing with the property owner. The property owner is a long distance manager. During our other stays, the properties had local management teams and I think that is the only way to go for my family moving forward.
After the glass, cleanliness, and other issues, the owner offered to make amends.
That turned ugly after we checked out. Because our crib rental company was not allowed to pick things up, we accidentally left a rubber mark on the concrete floors. The rubber was coming off, but we were leaving and we assumed it would be mopped. This turned into an issue with the owner and arguments turned into threats, bullying, and yelling. Good thing we took out the insurance on the property. Needless to say, there was no resolution to this issue to our satisfaction relative to our son's injury. I am sure you will see a taste of this in the response below.
Another tip is be wary of the little "notes" you find around the house. Even though it was not detailed in the contract, the owner expected us to do things that were detailed on tiny post it notes around the house.
All in all, there is a chance this property could work for you, but hope nothing goes wrong. Without the glass, it may have been a different experience. In the end, it is a low price rental, but that is no excuse for how we were treated.
Good luck if you rent.
