We had a wonderful weekend getaway at Astley Cottage with our dogs. Kevin and Ellen were exceptional hosts, and we were delighted to find a delicious sweet treat waiting for us in the fridge on arrival.The cottage has fantastic amenities and is incredibly comfortable from the cosy bed to the perfect lounger for relaxing. One of our favourite moments was sitting on the veranda, taking in the gorgeous view of the gully, so peaceful and calming.The location is ideal too: close to both Hepburn Springs and the Daylesford township, with a walking path that makes it easy to stroll to either. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay and would happily return.

Anniversary weekend

Astley Cottage was a calm retreat for two. What a wonderful outlook over the Daylesford bushland. The Cottage is well appointed with King size bed and delightful sheets and a spa and fire place to create the perfect couples retreat.

Incredible stay

I stayed at Astley Cottage with my partner for the weekend. The cottage was perfect, with gorgeous decor, an amazing view and everything we needed. Ellie and Kevin were lovely hosts and made sure our stay was perfect. We’ll definitely be rebooking if/when we visit the area again.

Charming cottage amongst the Gum trees

Astley House was a charming little one bed cottage. It was beautifully furnished, very clean and had everything we needed. A very enjoyable stay.

Nice cottage

Neat, clean cottage. Not quite as we expected- “complimentary wine” must be a figure of speech as there wasn’t any. “Netflix” must mean purchase your own. Wifi worked fine. We didn’t find the bed very comfortable, pillows too big and firm for me, had to use a couch cushion instead. Spa takes half a day to drain, no kidding. Private spot, nice garden, host left us to ourselves

Great accomodation

I stayed at the cottage with my husband and our pet dog, we all enjoyed it, the cottage was very comfortable and close to the town centre and the lake, the owners were very welcoming, already looking forward to coming back next time.

October 2024 stay

The cottage was very comfortable with everything you could want or need. As we are an over 70 couple the path to the cottage was a bit of a challenge with our luggage & the shower is over a spa bath, which could be an issue. We were ok with this at present, however a few years on could be a problem. The host was very friendly & helpful.

Steep

Astley cottage is lovely. Very cosy and warm. Excellent views. However, the cottage is located at the bottom of the owner's property, and is a very steep walk down an uneven flight of stairs with no handrail. This is unfortunately not mentioned anywhere when booking the property. The stairs are extremely off-putting, we even avoided going out so we didn't have to use them. Definitely not a stay for those with a disability.

Wonderful spa bath and fire

Had a lovely time. Enjoyed the spa bath and the fire. The couch was very comfortable and access to the wooded area behind the property was wonderful for taking the dog for walks.

First timers

It was a perfect little place, so cosy, if your looking for a quiet get away, this is the place, the bed is devine, lovely to have a king in a little cottage, the fire place was easy to work, and just gave the cottage a beautiful feel, and there was an aircon if you needed it, but with the fire going you really didn’t need it. The spa was a bonus for sure. Quiet, so quiet and peaceful, being the only cottage it is your own private space. Yummy treats for us upon arrival, and Kevin was such a delight, and if we needed anything both he and Ellie were on the end of the phone. Definitely recommend and will be going back.

Warm, cosy and well equipped

After being helped with our bags down the stairs by Kevin, we felt immediately at home in our snug little cottage. There were many thoughtful touches and inclusions in the equipment provided, including a jug and several trays. A delicious home made chocolate slice was also provided, typical of the welcoming spirit of Astley Cottage. Views were of the lovely olive greens of the great Australian bush,

Short Getaway

Great location & hosts, and to bring our dogs was important for us and great property for this, very well thought after what people need, basics salt pepper bbq all great. Also the Spa is a bonus. Recommended to stay - PS go check out the Daylesford Cidery (especially week days) great place take the dogs relax wine beer cider.

A little corner of paradise

The cottage is perched halfway up a hill, so you wake up in the trees canopy. The house is compact, but the space is well organized. Contrarily to most places we've been, the sitting in the living area is comfortable (even reclining chairs!), the television is modern and of good size. The bathroom is large with a shower over the spa. We appreciated the king size bed. Because Kevin used to be a chef, we were welcomed with delicious freshly baked muffins and Eileen was able to rescue us quickly when we inadvertently locked ourselves out of the cottage.

We are Ellie & Kevin & have been living & running Astley Cottage here in the spa country for 16 years. Previously living in Essendon Melbourne. I work as a Community Support Worker for the Hepburn Shire & Kevin is a retired Chef.
We enjoy the slower pace of the country life. We have our2 sons both grown up now & 2 granddaughters living in Queensland. We have our little treasure cavie LILY who is 12years old. We enjoy travelling , bush track walking, golf & dining out

Its so homely with all the comforts. Old fashioned as it sounds Kevin bakes muffins & treats to welcome our guests. We are very reasonably priced & really love what we do.
Its so warm in winter & cool in summer.

Its secluded within cottage gardens however right within walking distance to town.
We have walking tracks right at the door as its situated in Doctors Gully. Great selection of teas & a Nespresso coffee maker both satisfying our caffeine fix in the comfort of your own
