A tranquil and scenic vacation spot, rustic, and remote. Large deck and 180-degree view of the Puget Sound and Whidbey Island. Wildlife including eagles, herons, and deer are a constant source of entertainment.
The cabin needs some updating and a good thorough cleaning. Don't try to use the waterfront as you have no access. Wish we had known that the beach access is approximately 200 yards from the home and, reportedly, you can launch a kayak from there.
Living room was a wonderful and comfortable area to hang out, but the carpet could use a shampoo, and the windows need cleaning inside and out to fully take advantage of the gorgeous view. We felt that the cleanliness was acceptable aside from some dusty plates. The cabin is extremely well equipped for cooking and serving, and there’s a good variety of herbs and spices. The stale food products should be thrown out. New stove was great.
There are no blackout shades in the main bedroom, so the sunrise will definitely wake you. Bed was comfortable, and there was a large closet with plenty of drawers. As for the other sleeping area in the loft… access is difficult and there is no privacy up there. Suitable for older children, but not for anyone who values their privacy. Bathroom was ok, except the sink did not drain very well, and the wood surround of bathtub needs resurfacing. Ideally it would be tiled, but at a minimum it should be stripped, re-stained and a waterproof clear coat applied.
The deck is equipped with two sets of tables and chairs for dining alfresco, and the hammock is awesome. BBQ was small but adequate. Warning: wear shoes on the deck as it is in need of repair: boards are rotting and surface needs refinishing. Owners should replace, remove, or repair deck hot tub, a disgusting eyesore. (per Owner’s response to a previous reviewer… maintenance work around the hot tub had not occurred by the time we arrived on August 2.) If they replace or repair it, regularly scheduled maintenance is a must.
I fully agree with a previous reviewer that the rate advertised per night is misleading. At first glance it seems reasonable, but with the additional owners’ fees and VRBO administrative fees, the final price is nearly doubled. A more liberal cancellation policy would be helpful. The policy is 60 days in advance for a full refund! I will not be using VRBO in the future if this trend continues.
