Lucy's house is amazing! It is island style gorgeous, so well designed, with beautiful things both found and created. It is situated just high enough to have a lovely view of the harbor, both in the day, and in the night with the lights from the boats. The veranda is absolutely amazing to sit on and look at the gorgeous landscaping and listen to the birds. The front of the house is south facing, so you are all day bathed in the sunshine. There are no glass windows, just shutters to close if necessary, so you always have the soft trade winds keeping you just the right temperature. The fresh warm air was so healing. Even though there are gorgeous beaches just down the road, some days we had a hard time peeling ourselves away from the house!
The beds are very comfortable, and there are mosquito nets to keep the mozzies away. At night, we just set the alarm and left everything open. The bathroom is beautiful and refreshing, with a very nice rain shower. Since the house is very open, and the rooms are private but not entirely enclosed, it may be better suited for a family or friends traveling together than two couples. There is also a cute cottage on the property if you wanted to have a larger party.
Antigua is a beautiful island, full of warm and friendly people. After exploring most of the island, we were very happy to be staying in Falmouth, just up the road from English Harbor. This feels like the more "real" side of the island. We did go up and spend one day at Dickenson, but we prefer to be away from the big resorts. English Harbor has more quaint and lovely lodgings, a good little village (eat at Rum Baba, and Flatties Flame Grill), and Nelson's Dockyard which is a very historic area to walk around and explore. We spent most of our days at Pigeon Beach, or Galleon Bay beach, both just down the road from the house. Both have wonderful beach bar/cafes, Catherine's Plage at Pigeon, and The Cheeky Marlin at Galleon.
Our absolute favorite days were spent at Half Moon Bay beach. It is a stunning bay, and the north side is blocked from the winds so the water is clear and calm, wonderful for swimming and snorkeling. We didn't see as many fish here as at Galleon, but we did swim for a bit with a beautiful spotted ray. There is a beach bar/cafe there as well.
We have stayed in many vacation rentals, and we all agreed that Lucy's house was by far the most magical. We all said numerous times over the week, "We wish we lived in this house!"
