I had always dreamed of owning an early home, and I got my chance when I came across this building in Rhode island, which was set to be demolished. At 26 I made it my mission to save the building and started my journey which continues to this day. I purchased the building in 1978 and the process began first dismantling the building , the building was carefully dismantled by Hopkinton post and beam with every piece being numbered, so it could be reassembled on its new site. it was reassembled in Griswold where it currently sits on land gifted to me by my father on our family Christmas tree farm, land my family has owned since immigrating to this county from Heavitree, England in the 17th century, hence Heavitree in the name. I first dug the basement which is now the tavern suite and had a temporary roof put over, this is where I lived for the first year and throughout most of the process of making my home which is now the B&B. I worked two full time jobs and was able to save up enough money after one year to have the frame constructed, and over the next 15 years, mostly by myself using my income and the help of some wonderfully talented craftsman who through the process became life long friends, I went room by room carefully recreated and adding to the beautiful interiors you see today. after many happy years in the home raising my family, I decided to realize my dream and utilize my passion and natural gift for hosting, and opened up my beautifully curated home as a bed and breakfast and event facility. my mission was to share with others what I have spent years creating with the attention to detail I put into everything I do. and committing myself to making my guests time here special and memorable, and after 40 years of hard, loving work I am still constantly improving on the building that I love, and adding to the experience I've created.
