We were a group of two families and a couple of friends- 12 people total- all teens & adults. We love Eagles Mere but in the past had only stayed on Pennsylvania Avenue, closer to the Laurel Path and the lake. We hadn’t been up in a few years and my kids really missed this special place and wanted to bring some friends to introduce them to the place we hold so dear. This was our first stay at the Algonac -and it did NOT disappoint. The house was clean and ready to welcome us, tucked away in a private corner of the woods. The pictures online do not even do it justice… the house is just gorgeous!!! We all marveled at so many of the details in the design of this lodge- the wood work, high ceilings, multiple porches and gathering areas, comfortable seating and modern conveniences. Every bedroom has their own bathroom, and we had MORE than enough beds. (we were very short on towels so I did wish we had brought some from home but we made it work) Each room connects to a porch! It would be the perfect place for a larger family reunion or event. We enjoyed music each night around the piano, board games, toasting marshmallows at the fire pit. cooking meals in the wonderful kitchen together, reading & coffee on the porch, walking around the Laurel Path, and of course time at the beach, volleyball games, canoeing on the lake, & ice cream or iced coffee at the sweet shop. It was about a mile walk to the sweet shop, and there is one portion of the lane that is a very steep hill- but our group was fine walking that portion and enjoyed the stunningly beautiful views of the valley from the driveway! Our teens liked to ride bikes each day but had to walk the bikes up that steep portion of the lane. The weather was idyllic- no humidity and temps in the 70’s, nice and cool at night for sleeping. Other highlights of our stay included sunset and star gazing at High Knob Overlook, a long hike along the Loyalsock trail in World’s End State Park, visiting the Eagles Mere shops, Museum and the train room, and having breakfast together at the Sweet Shop on our last morning after check out. This week was just perfect and a chance to connect for quality time with some of our kids who have been away at college. The perfect way to kick off summer. We hope to come back! What an amazing house in such a picturesque setting! It was the R&R we all needed- an escape from the busyness of life and a chance to completely unplug (although the house DID have great wifi). Loved it!!!
