There was a purposely lit fire in the suite directly below us, which caused our suite to fill with toxic smoke and soot. Alarm went off at 3 o’clock in the morning. I was able to figure out where the fire was coming from and put it out, but sadly, our suite was filled with dirty, toxic debris from the fire, we requested a cleaning of the suite which was done to a substandard level. We were concerned about our health and safety in the suite so decided that we would leave one night early. We contacted VRBO and asked them to give us a refund of one night stay they refused and gave us $120 towards the $126 vrBo service fee. I am greatly disappointed with the service that we received from VRBO , I am now dealing with the property manager to see if they will give us some kind of refund towards the one night we did not stay. Our trip to Whistler was ruined by one individual unknown to ourselves who set a fire on the patio below us using the cushions from the outdoor sofa (Toxic materials) we dealt with this for 12 hours from 3 AM until 4 PM. We called 911 we dealt with the police and the fire and there is now a police case number for this and all we have received so far is $120 from VRBO for the issue , there needs to be safety at the properties that VRBO manages. I believe that this would not have happened if there was continued security sweeps of the property on a nightly basis. A very bad and traumatizing situation. I will NEVER use VRBO again. EVER.
