We decided to splurge as we had a group of old friends meeting up for a long weekend, and booked this house based on the listing which advertised a luxury home with amenities and "the five star services of a boutique hotel." In retrospect we wish we had booked a more typical Joshua Tree rental because nothing about this experience was luxurious.
First, nowhere does it say that this house is not in a quiet desert location that people go to JT for, but instead is on the major road between the park and Yucca Valley with fairly constant 55 mph traffic in front at all times.
Upon arrival we spent an hour trying to hook up to the Sonos system to set the mood for our guests arriving, and after several calls and messages with the property manager who assured us there was a way to do it, they sent someone over. He quickly determined that there is, in fact, no Sonos system in the house despite it being listed on their website.
Wasted a ton of our time.
We were informed an hour before arrival that the heat in the casita was "non operational" (a property management term we came to know well that weekend), so they instead put space heaters in each room which actually worked fine but is not what one would expect from what is billed as a luxury five-star experience.
The one appeal of the house turned out to be the spa, which was nice but broke a total of four times while we were there, and each time we had to stop what we were doing and contact the property manager who would reset it remotely without giving us any explanation as to why it kept malfunctioning or what we could do differently.
Really just one thing after another and a clearly inexperienced property management company who shouldn't set such high expectations and then not deliver. We would rather be told a place is rustic and quirky and be fine with that. (Also odd that they sent a bunch of questions about who were are and what we like to do so they could curate some recommendations and things to do while we're here, and then never followed up. We really didn't need their recommendations but weird to make us take the time to do that for no reason). We told them we weren't looking for a refund or anything, it is what it is, but they said multiple times that they were going to have their "resolutions department" get back to us, which also never happened. Best to avoid this house and this company.
