The good, the bad and the ugly - my honest review.
The good....
I had contacted our host a few days before check in, to see if we could leave our kayak trailer at the cabin earlier than 3:00 so that we could explore and do our food shopping before we entered the home. They were quick to reply and happy to oblige. When we checked in, I had to call to because the internet code was not what was listed in my email confirmation. She was able to give me that on the phone. It wasn't until they day we left that we realized there was a paper on the table, under some books that told us the code, and all the other things we wondered about. lol We never even looked at it because we thought it was about tourist info in the area, and we're from NC so we weren't interested in that. Before I left I put the paper on the fridge thinking it might be more easily seen by the next guests. We had a good laugh about it when we did read it though.
The house was very nice (obviously not as shiny and crisp as the pictures but we expected that with professional pictures). The master bed and guess room bed were very comfortable. We didn't use the basement. The hot tub was a great way to start and end the day, the fire pit was unique but awesome. We spent a lot of time out there. We had brought our own wood but they did provide a few logs as well. The house itself had pretty much anything you could possibly need. The kitchen was fully stocked, there were closets with extra toiletries, towels, etc. The grill was clean and had all the cooking utensils needed.
The bad ... We felt that the outdoor maintenance could be improved.
The pictures show a rocky entrance to the river, however they apparently old because it's now overgrown with weeds. We just thought that it could have been weed whacked prior to our arrival, for cleaner access to the river, especially during baby copperhead season. Note: we did not see any.
The ugly...
There were spider webs "everywhere". They were across the doorways, the deck slats, attached to chairs, etc. I live in the woods too and know that you clean them and they come back the next day but it was obvious that they hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. We did not see any actual spiders though. You can only see the webs when the sun starts to come around mid afternoon and early evening so maybe they clean early and never even noticed them. I used the a broom to clean the ones off the doorways but didn't touch the deck. Also bees nests were everywhere too and we (and the poor humming birds) were harassed by them. Lastly, we also could tell that nobody really looks up when they clean. There were cobwebs all over the walls and corners in both bedrooms and a spider living in the corner of the spare room. You could tell that all the cobwebs had been there a long time.
In closing... we loved the cabin, and hope they will allow us to come back some day. None of my bad or ugly would keep us away. Those are easy fixes. So I encourage you to go, and enjoy! It's a very relaxing place to be. The contact people were great, and there are so many places of necessity nearby if you need them. (Walmart, Ingles, Lowes, Dollar General and more).
