The location was as promised: near the heart of downtown, short blocks away from the hot clubs, restaurants, and cafés. The issue is that there is a downside: it's near the noise, street crime, and vagrancy that comes with those venues.
The building provided secure entry and 24/7 security in the lobby. The issue is that it was needed. When we arrived, two homeless people were asleep on the front steps to our building.
We arrived earlier than expected, which meant our Vrbo property manager wasnt there to give us the key. Luckily, the security had my name on their list and called the property manager to cone give us our key. I found it interesting that our reservation number from Vrbo wasn't enough to find our reservation, causing a scare that somehow we had no place to stay. Vrbo and Propr (South Africa's Vrbo) need to coordinate better on that.
We finally got to the apartment, which had some issues. Mostly, it was dusty. They cleaned the place, but "clean" meant floors and bathroom. There were some items in the cupboard that had been there from the last client -- oil, spices, salt. No big deal, but concerning in their lack of thoroughness. But the big thing was the dusty couch that was on the verge of collapse every time we sat down. And the dusty blanket that triggered alergies in us.
The near broken couch wasnt the only thing that easnt up to par. The bathroom door stuck when shut. Stove fan didnt work. Blinds didnt work for 1 window....
