Overall, it was great. You do need to understand what you're getting though. For golfers it is a special place as it was the home of Donald Ross. This is a very, very old building. We found it very clean but it has the nuances of extremely old buildings. It is not a luxury condo. Carrying luggage up the narrow winding steps could potentially be a challenge for some. The cottage is best suited to one couple, a small family, or a few guys on a golf getaway. The two bedrooms are both upstairs with one bathroom between them and It might be a bit awkward for two couples or any arrangement where modesty and privacy are valued. Since it was only my wife and myself, it was great. The bedrooms both have angled ceilings which is simultaneously charming and painful for taller people that may get up in the night as the knot on my head would attest. However, it's only a first night mistake. The same can be said for the shower/tub. It is a seriously tight fit for anyone but, If you are 6'0" or above a standing shower will be interesting/challenging. There is a fixture for a sitting shower. The bed was very comfortable. There is a WC downstairs which is handy but the entrance is low so you need to mind your head here also. The kitchen has everything you need and it's a two person only kitchen. There is a tiny, but covered, outdoor space where the washing machine is located and the machine works well. There is no dryer so you'll be hanging your clothes and there are lines in the back yard and clothespins to do so. A breakfast room and sitting room are both well appointed and comfortable, The back yard is somewhat terraced and is pleasant with a great view of the Cathedral tower. If it's clear you can see all the way out to the water on the other side of town and we found a spot under a tree to just sit and have a glass. Everything is walkable and walk you should. It's a beautiful town. We enjoyed the quirkiness and the atmosphere of the cottage and had no complaints. One last trait to be aware of is that, because it is what it is, there will be the occasional person (golfer) or two (golfers) standing out front taking pictures of the place you're staying. As a golfer and a quasi-student of the game, it was a bucket list item for me and we were both glad we stayed here. We will very likely do so again.
