Our country house, the cozy “Teacher,” is an early 20th-century building located in one of the first communities of the former Arraial do Tijuco, the village of Vau. The house has been renovated but retains its original—nearly century-old—structure, creating a perfect blend of rustic charm, comfort, and leisure: simple, cozy bedrooms, open-concept living areas, a fully equipped kitchen with a barbecue and wood-burning stove, a beautiful gazebo, a suspended deck, and a swimming pool. Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and cable TV (Sky) is provided. The country house is located within a small tourist complex between Diamantina and Serro along the Estrada Real—which includes the Salitre Cave, the village of Vau, São Gonçalo do Rio das Pedras, Milho Verde, and Capivari. Vau lies on the banks of the Jequitinhonha River and, in the past, was one of the few places along the river where it could be crossed on foot or on horseback—hence the name Vau. The house is quiet and welcoming. The open-concept layout allows guests to interact… a little chat, stories, and the sound of birds in the background! The living room with the fireplace is the perfect spot for reading, wine testing, and sampling artisanal cheese. In the TV room, the adobe panel evokes the past... the smart TV is just a detail, but guests can watch a movie while the fireplace warms the room. The bedrooms retain all the simplicity and warmth of a country home... The kitchen is spacious and has everything you need to prepare a typical Minas Gerais meal: a wood-burning stove and traditional cast-iron pots.... There’s also a cooktop, just in case the firewood is wet :-) In the recreation area, plenty of smiles and fun are allowed... the little Dako stove from the 1960s is a special touch.
