Kookaburra Cottage • 3 Bedroom Farm Retreat 10 minutes from Mount Gambier

Enjoy a soak in the outdoor claw bath whilst stargazing, roast some marshmallows around the firepit, get up close & hand feed the alpacas & sheep, & enjoy all the modern cottage offerings of this home away from home.

Kookaburra Cottage is right on the doorstep to some of the most popular tourist hotspots of Mount Gambier & the Limestone Coast region, whilst providing countryside tranquillity.

The cottage is a 10 minute drive from the City of Mount Gambier, home of the Blue Lake and Valley Lake Precinct. We are located in the small farming town of Yahl, which is the perfect location for exploring all that the Limestone Coast Region has to offer.

Kookaburra Cottage is a 3 bedroom modern country cottage that caters for up to 8 guests.

It boasts a main bedroom with queen-size bed, ensuite and private outdoor claw foot bath area, a second bedroom with queen-size bed, and a third bedroom with a double bed, single bed and trundle floor bed also available on request. Bedroom three includes a dedicated office nook, perfect for working while on away from home, and baskets of kids toys & books to keep the youngest travellers entertained.

It features an open plan living/dining/kitchen area with plenty of cosy lounge-room seating space to take in the country views. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking during your stay and includes a Smeg pod coffee machine. Ducted heating/cooling is throughout.

Outside there is an undercover carport, parking spaces for up to 3 cars, and a large fenced and private front lawn surrounded by paddocks. Our Alpaca herd and two pet sheep reside in the neighbouring paddock and love being fed grain treats, which you'll find in a tub by the cottage fence. A delightful experience for the kids!

There is a firepit area with rustic seating and wood supplied to enjoy, an outdoor table, and a barbecue for outdoor cooking.

Little Rippa Brewery and Caroline Hills Winery are both located 2 minutes away & are close enough to cycle to for a wine tasting, beer paddle or a woodfired pizza.

The Blue Lake, Kilsby Sinkhole dive site, Port MacDonnell beach, Glenelg River (great for kayaking!) and Umpherston Sinkhole all lie within a 10-30 minute drive from the cottage.

The cottage is just lovely, exactly as advertised. We wanted a quiet spot outside of town to relax after a few intense days. Beds were super comfy, kitchen well supplied. Will hopefully get to visit for fun next time.

Relaxing weekend retreat

A real hidden gem...beautiful interior with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing weekend away. My only regret is not booking for longer! Enjoyed by the whole family, but the animals, fire pit and outdoor bath were winners for the kids!

Wonderful Stay at Kookabarra!

I had a fantastic time staying at the Kookabarra house. The place was super clean, relaxing, and had such a pleasant atmosphere. It was the perfect spot for our family getaway! The location is great, not too far from the town center, so everything we needed was within easy reach. There was also plenty of space for the kids to run around and stay entertained. A highlight for us was feeding the sheep – it was such a fun and memorable experience! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful, family-friendly stay.

Awesome hideaway

This is an absolute gem of a property 5 minutes outside of Mt Gambier. It is very well equipped with everything you could want. We cooked and ate in most nights and it was a breeze. We will definitely be staying here again the next time we visit the south east.

Everything was beautiful. The kitchen was great and the pantry had some supplies beyond what we'd normally expect. The kids were obsessed with the alpaca and sheep, which they got to feed.

The cottage is absolutely gorgeous. Extremely clean. Owners were very helpful over the app communication. Lots of little things that made it extra special. Sheep and alpacas right outside your door to feed and pat made our stay the best few days! Will definitely be finding a time to return!

Blissful Country Retreat

The Kookaburra Cottage exceeded all expectations. A tranquil country setting with exceptional attention to details and comforts. The Cottage was spotless, the beds provided comfort and support. the linen fresh and clean. The sofas are large and comfy, perfect for relaxing with a book. The Kitchen is perfectly equipped for cooking, all that is required, are the ingredient. The outdoor bath is such a lovely feature and fire pit on cooler nights. We are an outdoors loving family of four that have a love of exploring and travelling. We are a Carpenter & Teacher duo that share a passion for creative projects; and find it hard to sit still! Chris enjoys woodwork and creates hardwood furniture as a side venture, and Liana can often be found in her vege patch. We have two young children that keep us busy and we love nothing more than taking them on day trips to local places to create family memories. We have loved our experiences with short term rental homes over the years and have always wanted to create a home away from home for others to enjoy in the Limestone Coast- that creation is Kookaburra Cottage!

Being just10 minutes from Mount Gambier means cafes, restaurants, supermarkets and shopping malls are easily accessible, however the rural farmland that surrounds the cottage makes you feel worlds away - nestled in the peace and quiet of the countryside.

Take a hot bath under the stars, roast marshmallows around the campfire with your loved ones and embrace farm life feeding the alpacas and sheep from the comfort of your own private backyard!
