Escape to total privacy on Buckhorn Lake, under 2 hours from the GTA. The Lazy Bear is a secluded, family-first retreat featuring 90ft of private shoreline with rare, shallow-step entry—perfect for kids.

Relax in our bug-free sunroom, explore the lake with provided paddleboards and a 4-person canoe, or cozy up by the wood-burning fireplace. With central AC, high-speed Wi-Fi, and a 7-minute drive to groceries, it’s the perfect blend of rugged beauty and modern convenience.

This isn't a typical investment rental—it’s our personal family sanctuary, tucked far back from the road for a more secluded stay. The lakeside is level and easy to navigate, making the walk from the cottage to the water safe and accessible for all ages.

THE COTTAGE & SUNROOM

SLEEPING: Two bright bedrooms with queen beds for adults and a dedicated "kids’ zone" with a double-over-double bunk bed.

KITCHEN & DINING: We pride ourselves on a truly well-stocked kitchen. Whether you are brewing morning coffee or preparing a full family dinner, you’ll find all the cookware, gadgets, and essentials you need to feel right at home.

THE SUNROOM: Our favourite spot in the house. An enclosed, bug-free sanctuary where you can enjoy the lake breeze and panoramic views without the mosquitoes.

COMFORT: Fully updated with central AC for humid summer nights and a cozy wood-burning fireplace for crisp lakeside evenings.

FAMILY-FIRST AMENITIES

As parents ourselves, we know the "gear struggle." We’ve stocked the lakehouse to help you pack lighter:

- High chair and baby bathtub
- Children’s cutlery and plates
- Adult and child-sized life jackets
- Smart TV and board games for rainy afternoons

GUEST FAVOURITES & CONVENIENCE

WATERFRONT: Large private dock, lakeside fire pit, 4-person canoe, and 2 stand-up paddleboards.

CONNECTIVITY: High-speed Wi-Fi for remote work and a dedicated washer/dryer for longer stays.

PROXIMITY: While you'll feel miles away from everything, groceries and the LCBO are just a 7-minute drive away.

WINTER ACCESS All wheel drive and winter tires are strictly required from December to March. The downhill driveway is steep and can be difficult to navigate in snow without proper equipment.

SEASONAL DOCK The dock is typically available from the May Long Weekend through Thanksgiving. Exact dates are weather-dependent.

PET POLICY Dogs welcome upon request. Please keep pets leashed outdoors, minimize barking, and clean up after them.

COMMUNITY & NOISE We are in a quiet residential area. Please observe quiet hours after 11:00 PM and be respectful of our neighbours.

SHORELINE & SWIMMING The entry area is sandy-bottomed and kept clear for swimming. Please expect some weeds in the deeper water off the end of the dock.

Had a great weekend away at Lazy Bear Cottage with a group of friends. The cottage is spacious and very well equipped with everything you need. The paddle boards and floating mat were great for enjoying the lake during the day and the sunset views from the private dock were beautiful! Would absolutely stay here again.

My wife and I spent a week here with our 2 year old and 6 month old. We had such a great time! The place is beautiful and the kitchen is super well stocked. My 2 year old son was kept busy the whole time by the sandbox and steps into the lake. Thanks Michelle and Ryan for a fantastic stay!

We had a wonderful time at this beautiful cottage. It had everything we excepted and more. Very well stocked with all the right kitchen items. We also enjoy the fireplace by the lake shore. It was just a terrific location on beautiful Buckhorn Lake.

Perfect cottage retreat

This cottage was an absolutely perfect getaway for me and my family. We spent a relaxing week, jumping in the lake, enjoying the views and soaking up the sun & fresh air. Michelle's place is even nicer and more well equiped than in the photos. I would definitely stay here again!

Our family getaway at Lazy Bear Lakehouse.

We were extremely impressed with the cleanliness of the property inside and out. The thoughtfulness of having everything we needed to make our stay the most comfortable. The beds and linens were fresh, extremely comfortable and pristine. They truly thought of everything to ensure our stay was memorable and enjoyable and they were easy to communicate with. Great fishing from the dock was also a huge plus!

Lazy Bear is a lovely escape

The Lazy Bear Lakehouse is a luxurious, lovely plan to relax and unwind. It’s beautifully decorated and so clean! The bed linens were immaculate. The fireplace and TV room was a perfect place to lounge. We loved the view, especially because it was fall. I highly recommend staying here.

Cozy Escape

It felt like being nestled up in our own little cozy woodland. It was better then in the pictures and some of our top favorites are the heating lamp, the shower, the fire pit and how well supplied the kitchen is overall perfect place to unwind .

We like the cottage a lot and are considering to rent it again in the future. Three recommendations: Put mosquito repellants on deck and fire pit, fix door to deck, and include a couple of kayak.

We had a fantastic time on our week long stay! The hosts really help you feel right at home from the moment you check in. It was clean and had many baby friendly amenities which made packing easier. The sandy beach area was a huge hit for our toddler who spent hours playing with the provided beach toys in the sand. The interior of the cottage was great. Comfortable beds, spacious, lots of comfy seating and a fantastic sunroom where we enjoyed sitting, especially during the rain storm we had. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need including a blender, air fryer, instant pot and dishwasher. The weather was too cold for swimming but there was a nice shallow area that would be fun in the summer. Keep in mind the swimming area is only as far as the dock goes out into the lake as there are lots of weeds in the water past the dock. We took short trips to Buckhorn, Bobcaygeoon and Peterborough when we were there. All had some great spots to eat and nice playgrounds for our toddler. I would highly recommend this cottage for a wonderful family stay in the Kawarthas.

Our new favorite place!

The Lazy Bear Lakehouse is such a beautiful and cozy place; the owners Michelle and Ryan have thought of everything! Such excellent hosts! The location really made for a relaxing and memorable stay with family. An ideal and pleasant getaway from the city. A beautiful place to get away, unplug and enjoy nature; cozying up around a nice fire outdoors was a highlight! We our planning another visit (longer next time), and we will be recommending your lovely place to everyone!! Thank you so much for everything and looking forward to another visit. 5-star lakehouse 🐻🌟

I stayed at the Lazybear Lakehouse with my family for 3 nights and it was one of the best cottage/lakehouse that I ever visited. From the moment we walked in we kept saying how nice it is, from the location, to the interior, and to the view. The LBL is different from other rentals since it feels so homey and comfortable, you have everything you could need and more. The entire house is amazing but my favourite rooms were the kitchen (more than fully-equipped) and the sunroom (great for morning coffees). Michelle was available to answer any questions and her online guide was super helpful! I would definitely book again and keep recommending it to all my friends :)

Great time at Lazy Bear

From the moment we arrived we had an excellent time. Because my wife needs a wheelchair and walker, the lakehouse was easy for her to get around. I found the renovations were really thought through, from the sunroom addition to the light switches everything was excellently done. Totally impressed with the appliances, it was just like being at home, everything you need. With everything being supplied, it just added to the comfort level at Lazy Bear. They also have a great cleaning crew. Lazy Bear was exceptionally clean. Michelle and Ryan were readily available for a couple of questions that we had. Great Hosts. The only problem we had was with there renovations they forgot to put in a heated toilet seat LOL Thanks again Highly recommend for a great holiday Dave & Betty

Peace Personified

4 out of 7 rooms have huge windows facing the lake. I literally did not watch the TV more than once because I was mesmerized by the sights and sounds of this gorgeous property. The incredible night sky kept me out way past my bedtime I could actually see constellationss! All day there was so much birdsong... Ducks, Geese, Loons, Robins, Cardinals, Doves, blackbirds finches and so many more. I've only been back home for 1 day and I already want to book my next stay! Don't even get me started on the perfect screened in sunroom. If you've ever wanted to lounge around comfortably all day and then unwind a bit more - just watch the colours of the lake and sky as the light slowly fades each evening.

We absolutely loved our stay here. Starting with the drive up, it was exactly as we had hoped. Checking in was seamless and we were greeted with the cutest basket of goodies on the kitchen island. It is the coziest cottage and has absolutely everything you could need. They even made sure to have the dogs items covered which was amazing! We spent almost the entire time down by the water whether it was paddle boarding, canoeing or the kids jumping off the dock. There were plenty of sand toys which was a nice break when the kids needed a rest from the water. We started our mornings playing one of the many board games and since being home, have added more games to our collection! We made meals together which was convenient as they had absolutely everything you could need to cook a nice meal. We spent the rest of the day at the water and enjoyed fires in the evening as well as fishing off the dock. The cottage is spotless, cozy and truly feels like home. We mentioned several times how at home and how at peace we all felt. We can't wait to come back next year and make it a family tradition at this beautiful cottage. One of our favourite parts is how our kids could walk into the water and swim on their own as it is shallow enough to do so, but deep enough that they could jump off and have a blast. We are grateful for our experience and opportunity to stay here and we look forward to many more stays!

Family gathering

We enjoyed our time at the Lazy Bear Lakehouse on Buckhorn Lake very much with our adult children and grand dogs. The cottage is lovely, the setting quiet and serene, although we were there during the week only and in June and suspect it might get busier on weekends and during full summer. We enjoyed the paddle boards provided and brought kayaks as well. We weren't able to enjoy a campfire as there was/is a fire ban, for good reason. I was unable to reply to the host on the thread upon arrival as google stated I'd been redirected too many times - weird - but I was able to email separately and communicate by text, hence the 4 stars for communication and check in but that was not a fault of the hosts. Also google maps directed two of our group down the wrong lane so we drove past the neighbour's cottage before we realized it was down the next lane. The geese had taken up residence on the deck and lawn before we arrived and the host offered to get the maintenance crew back to clean it up but we looked after it. It's nature - sh** happens! Our weather was beautiful and we really enjoyed our stay!
