This was a simple cabin in a quiet, peaceful setting on the small Cuchara river. Nothing elaborate or fancy, so don’t expect that. But if sitting by the small river in solitude is what you’re wanting, this is the place. Clean with basic necessities, just a couple of blocks from the few businesses in Cuchara, which unfortunately had almost all closed for the season the very day we arrived. Our stay was Oct 7-9 and the fall colors were at their absolute peak, but many businesses in the area had just closed on weekdays for end of season. Still a pleasant stay. Great hiking just across the road in San Isbel National Forest.

The best part of this property is the outdoor setting by the creek .This property needs a good scrubbing some fresh paint .An adult size toilet would be nice .The outdoor grill is disgusting.I am so glad that I brought my own bed linens and comforter.This cabin could be wonderful with some TLC . Cuchara is a beautiful area we enjoyed our time hiking and exploring the area .

The location is excellent!!We enjoyed sitting outside listening to the Cucharas River so much. Our grandkids played in the water and had a blast!

The outside property was incredible with great views and access to the river. The house, although furnished well and clean, has a few problems. The water heater must be very small because you will run out of hot water if one person takes a shower. There are no three prong outlets in one of the bedrooms and there is only one plug in each bedroom. We figured out how to overcome this in the one bedroom with the three prong plug by using two extension cords for our phones and watches. The outside fire pit was not working but the propane was full and they do not allow outside fires. Overall the house is okay for a short stay.

On the first day of our trip, I found a dead mouse in the living room and removed it. The last day, while looking for my wife's hair accessory, I discovered two more dead mice in a glue trap behind a chest of drawers in the front bedroom. I didn't tell my wife about the dead mice in order to avoid finding another place to stay. I suggest you thoroughly inspect the property before customers arrive and remove all dead rodents, rodent traps, and poison.

Perfect Getaway

This was the perfect place for my family of 5! The house had everything we needed and sipping coffee next to the river can’t be beat! We fell in love with Cuchara and will definitely be back again in the future. The house is cozy, clean and the perfect space for a small getaway.

Fantastic location with a beautiful open back yard space where we sipped on coffee in the cool crisp morning by the flowing river and reminisced about the day spent exploring around the fire pit. Literally hated to leave…….
