If you’re looking for shiny and new, and if rustic isn’t your thing, this place is NOT for you! This 1910 cottage must be appreciated as a longtime survivor with a deep local history. A gem in the rough, where the patina of age only adds to its appeal. The owners have taken great pains to keep this beach cottage authentic, while making sure basic creature comforts are provided. The house is not heated for example, but there is a working fireplace to take the chill off. We stayed here the first week in October, taking a chance on the weather. Spent our mornings sipping coffee on the street side of the cottage where the sun warmed us. We would return late afternoon to enjoy the sun on the beach side, on the deck. Very private and unspoiled. It really is hard to find a real beach cottage that hasn’t been gutted and remodeled with bargain basement furniture and the smell of paint and grout in the air. This house is the real deal. It’s got the feel of many happy summer vacations over generations. You can feel it when you enter. It’s stocked with many ocean-inspired books, bird and seashell identification manuals and the like. A careful review of the historical photographs and newspaper clippings displayed will give you a sense of what “The Old Gal” has weathered during her lifetime. Bottom line, it was just what I was looking for and we really enjoyed our stay!
