Welcome to Shell Cottage on Bald Head Island!

Shell Cottage at Cape Fear Station invites you to Bald Head Island! BHI is a unique and peaceful island accessible by a 20 minute passenger ferry or private yacht. The island has golf carts and biking as the mode of transportation. Shell Cottage is within walking/biking distance to East Beach—one of the most favored beaches on the island—Turtle Conservancy, and Mike's Bites. Shoals Club is located conveniently close with a temporary membership available with a daily/weekly pass for an additional fee. The Maritime Market (grocery) is located 8 minutes by golf cart from the house with shopping and spa available. The Marina is located 12 minutes from the house with restaurants and many activities available.

Long term rentals welcome. 1 month to 3 months available. Discounts applied.

A charming 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage with a newly added bathroom and 2nd bedroom to make your family visit more comfortable. The house has a fully equipped galley kitchen, two flat screen TV's with cable, wifi/reliable internet, beach/bath towels, and bed linens. The house is equipped with a wealth of amenities including beach chairs, boogie boards, pop up tents, beach toys, youth sports equipment, movies, books, and games.

The cottage has one 4 person golf cart provided for guest use. 4 adult bicycles and 2 kid bicycles are available for renter use (conditions vary due to beach climate).

Complimentary starter supplies of cleaning products, paper towels and bath tissue. House is professionally cleaned between each guest.

Early check in and late check out available depending on schedule. Please check with owner regarding availability of check in/out schedule. Sleeps up to 4 people. Rental insurance is required in lieu of a security deposit.

It was very easy to reserve the property and communicate with the host. My husband and I enjoyed how comfortable and clean the cottage was. There were also wonderful starter products in the bathrooms and all the kitchen items we needed to make our stay easy. We definitely will return.

Dianne was prompt in answering our questions and addressing any concerns. The layout of the house was great with the family space being the central open area. The rooms were cozy and had all of the things that we needed for our stay. We enjoyed our visit and would stay again. Only thing I would note for those that it would matter, is that the listed grill is not full size but rather a small portable charcoal grill.

We had a wonderful family vacation on BHI! The house is great, close to the beach and exactly as advertised. Perfect for families of 4. Dianne is an extremely responsive host, and was available to address anything that came up. Would absolutely stay here again!

There were some glitches in the check-in process but the host was quick to respond and the problems were solved in a very timely manner. Having 2 golf carts was a real bonus, as the beach chairs could be loaded on one with plenty of room for 4 adults to get to the beach easily. I do wish I'd known to go ahead and make ferry and tram reservations at the time of booking. We waited until closer to the vacation time and found that all the ideal times were completely full. We'll keep this in mind for the next time!All in all, we had a really great time and came home with fun memories.

We (2 adults/2 kids) were disappointed and uncomfortable in the main living area of this house. Cons: The couch was stained, dishes dirty and disheveled, dirty oven mitts and no dish towels. The main living area needs a deep clean and reset. The kitchen appliances were quirky, dated, and dingy. The same goes for the outdoor amenities: the "grill" was so small you'd have to squat on the ground to use it. The bikes & beach chairs were in such poor shape we didn't use them. We've stayed at BHI 10 times and this is the first time I felt we really overpaid for our stay. Pros: Location, flexibility at check-in (with the ferry running sporadically due to dredging schedules), and the owner was communicative throughout the stay. However, after our stay I requested a price adjustment for the condition of the main living area but did not receive a response.

With our stellar history of ratings, and my comments listed below, I find her review showing no sympathy for the island and the hard working service providers that makes BHI such a wonderful place to visit. The island had a rare incident significantly impacting food delivery and primary services. Cleaning services could not get to the island for almost a week impacting schedules and stress to everyone. -Guest moved in on the prior guest which disrupted the cleaning service resulting in less than normal cleaning, -Guest did not follow the instructions on how to leave the house causing the following guest stress and more impact to cleaning -Guest failed to understand the amenities and descriptions of the house prior to her stay -Anyone who travels to a beach should understand there is oxidation which is also noted in the cottage description and are provided free to use -Guest brought a dog impacting the cleanliness -Guest was too busy having a fun vacation to fail to report the dishes and linens, The cleaning service would have made a special trip to rectify the situation -Guest was too busy to read the provided instructions for galley kitchen appliances

This was the perfect location for a getaway with my daughter! We love the area near the Conservancy which allows us to walk or drive to all of the places that we love! The communication from our host was top notch!

This was a perfect get-away spot! It's a small house, tall and narrow, but beautifully constructed, with lots of little nooks that make great use of the space. The same can be said of the kitchen, which despite being quite petite was one of the best-stocked I've experienced in a rental home—my husband and I had everything we needed to cook up a Thanksgiving dinner! Dianne was a gracious, accommodating and communicate host. Highly recommended for a couple or small family group.

What a great weekend getaway with my family! The house was stocked with a few games, Legos and lots of beach toys. The kids bikes fit my two kids well and we really did not need to bring a thing for the kids but food and clothes. The beaches were beautiful and pretty empty. We joined the Shoals Club for the two days. We felt like it was nice but unnecessary unless you plan to eat out often. It’s always a big plus when the beds are comfortable and we all found that to be the case. We’d definitely come back!

Great house for a couple's getaway! It is in a great location on the island with quick access to everything but also still with lots of privacy. Dianne was one of the best hosts I have stayed with - super accommodating and quick to respond.
