Sunset Cabin is nestled in the mountains minutes from downtown. Find your latest treasure at one of the antique shops in town. Cook a meal on the grill while the sun warms the skies over the trees and then relax under the stars. You won't find a better view than from our deck. Great hiking trails for all skill levels nearby or explore the forest preserve just around the corner. Wildlife sightings on the property are highly likely, although not guaranteed.

We have stayed at the Sunset Cabin twice now and loved it both times! We first visited during the fall. Strawberry was beautiful that time of year and I swear we saw Elk every corner we looked. We again visited most recently May 2026. While there was fewer active wildlife in the summer compared to the fall, the 75 degree weather was PERFECT. This cabin specifically is charming, peaceful, and great for a “do nothing” weekend. The views are amazing. I love being inside just as much as outside. We returned for a reason and certainly would consider coming back a third time.

We loved staying here! Comfortable for us and the kids. The views were incredible. Plenty of room. Very cozy at night even with cold temperatures outside. Would definitely choose to stay here again.

Lovely A frame, beautiful view, saw elk all over. The house is clean and has a well stocked kitchen. Good place to eat, including Payson, which is only 30 minutes south. Bring washcloths, and a hair dryer if you need them as there are none provided, everything else is perfect.

We loved this property. It was much larger that it appeared in the photos. I would suggest that it might be challenging for someone who doesn't manage stairs. It is beautifully designed and has a beautiful fireplace that would be great for cool nights. The view is wonderful, as well.

We had such an enjoyable time at this cabin. The area was quiet, sunsets beautiful, starry nights and cherry on tops was seeing elk twice! Cabin is clean, comfortable beds, great WiFi and stocked with most everything you need. We will definitely book again!

Absolutely immaculate

This place as an absolute dream. It was very clean and extremely organized. I went for a weekend away with my family for my husband’s 30th birthday and it absolutely met our needs. We would stay again.

Great Property But Owner Expects You to Do their job

Overall, it was a very good stay, up until the point where I came upon the rulebook in the property, which informed me that I was expected to clean all the dishes, put them back, take out the trash, strip the bed and gather the towels and still be out of the property by 10 am the following morning OR face a financial penalty for not acceding to the owner's wishes. First of all, it's outrageous that I was charged $165 for a cleaning fee while being expected to perform a bevy of cleaning duties. Moreover, I likely would not have booked this property had these expectations been laid out in advance at the time of booking. At the very least, I think it's only fair to expect these conditions to be laid out in advance and not after I have checked in and paid in full

I am sorry this upset you so much that it ruined your stay and warranted a 3* review. In order for my housecleaners to be able to clean the house in time for the next guest this is what they need to be done upon checkout. You will find this is a common practice among short term rentals. I will add the checkout instructions to the online welcome guide so these tasks are known prior to booking. Thank you for the suggestion. The cleaning fee is the price we pay to have it professionally cleaned by an amazing team and is the only fee I include in our price. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience it may have caused you.

Beautiful A-frame Cabin and Setting

The advertised sunset views were beyond beautiful, and we were fortunate enough to watch afternoon thunderstorms come in over the surrounding mountains. The cabin is in a neighborhood, but secluded amongst the woods and foliage, and they did a great job of maximizing the views and atmosphere. We highly recommend!

Fossil Creek weekend

we arrived earlier to the property and the owner was there, John, very welcoming, the house is lovely, everything you see on the pictures, the property was very cleaned and organized, I woud recomand this location, easy to get there, enjoy the mornings and evenings, our family is planning on going back next year.
