Our stay in the red barn was delightful. The space is very well done with a quality feel. The mattress was comfortable for me, which is not typical!The location requires care for night driving, but you are in the hills of California after all. Very quiet with the exceptional sounds of nature or the rare car passing by.If and when we return to the Mendocino area, we can hopefully return to the red barn. There are probably cheaper places around, but this location and the quality of the construction and interior are exceptional.The hosts are lovely and interesting people.This is a great location for exploring the area. Much to see and do with a short drive from the hilltop.

This is a lovely, clean and thoughtfully designed unit. It is located on a beautiful property in the forest of Mendocino. It has everything necessary for a relaxing visit including a comfortable bed, nice linens and towels, and a fully equipped kitchen.The hosts are super friendly and make sure all you need are met. I would say this is the best place I’ve ever rented on Vrbo!

The location of Red Barn Retreat is that you are in a secluded area within a short walk to the Pygmy forest, part of a State park with lovely redwoods and trails and yet very convenient to restaurants, beaches, and many other State parks. Gabi and Richard live nearby and provided a friendly welcome but always respected privacy of their guests. Gabi is a wonderful massage therapist so that's a bonus to get a great massage right upstairs! The Retreat was SPOTLESS and very comfortable. You won't have any regrets if you have a chance to enjoy this retreat built with comfort and tranquility in mind.

ery comfortable, lovingly and thoughtfully decorated get away in a peaceful and beautiful setting, right near Van Damme State Park. My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The hosts were super accommodating. We highly recommend staying here and using it as a base to explore the Mendocino coast.

We had a wonderful time here. Everything was represented accurately. No surprises. It's conveniently located (once you find it -- slow down, it's on the left). There's wifi at the cabin, but it is otherwise out of cell service. It was a great place for an anniversary weekend. We will definitely come back again!

Very cool property. Close to the Pigmy forest and a great hike at the same location. A bit off the beaten path and away from any traffic which was also nice. Would stay again without hesitation.

The couple that built it clearly love this place and it reflected in our stay. The barn was sooo adorable and tucked away. So romantic and perfect for a weekend stay. Would definitely come again.

Clean, with excellent towels and a very comfortable bed! Just a cozy experience in Little River. Loved the radiant heat floors - so nice when you wake up in the morning to feel a nice, toasty floor.

Nice place to stay near Little River/Mendocino

Very nice one-bedroom place, very quiet, nicely furnished, cute outdoor table area. I’d definitely recommend to other couples. My only complaint was the price went up 30% when we later added two adult children, which seemed excessive since our use of the place stayed the same.

James, Thank you for your review. We are glad that you and your family enjoyed staying at our Red Barn. As I pointed out when you added your two additional guests, weeks after you had already made the reservation, a $25 fee per person per night is added for each additional guest. Our prices are transparent and had you made your initial reservation for 4 guests this extra charge would have immediately been included in the price of your reservation. This is also very clearly stated on our site. Every Airbnb, or hotel for that matter, that we have ever stayed at charges for extra guests. This fee covers the additional laundry and cleanup that is incurred by having 4 instead of 2 guests stay. We are sorry that you found this upsetting. We wish you and your family the very best! Return trip was just as wonderful as the first.

This is our second visit to the Red Barn Retreat, and once again, it was a perfect place to retreat to after our bustling family Thanksgiving festivities on the coast. Well appointed, comfortable, peaceful and fabulous hosts. Thank you, Gabriele and Richard!

Beautiful Cottage in Great Location

The Danish word “hygge” is a perfect description of the feeling of contentment and coziness that comes from the comfort and warmth that this beautiful cottage affords. The interior is rich with earth tones and pleasant trim around the door and windows. It is very warm, and I especially enjoyed the heating emanating from the floor. The bed was comfortable, and the kitchen was well laid out with all of the cooking amenities needed to make a nice meal. Gabriele and Richard are delightful hosts who sought to ensure our stay was comfortable. The setting of this cottage is beautiful, just outside the Van Damme State Park. We took advantage of the Fern Valley hike that starts just down the road from the cottage, and it is a beautiful trail that is worth experiencing. The nearby town of Mendocino is charming. The ocean views are spectacular as are the forests. This is a real gem and is worth trying out.

Nice little place outside of town

The place was very spacious, clean, attractive, and in good condition. It was an excellent value. The owner was very friendly and helpful. It's a couple miles outside of town, so you have to drive to anything other than the pygmy forest - but that also makes it quieter. I would recommend it. would highly recomme

Charming country cottage

We enjoyed our stay at the Red Barn Retreat. The property is beautiful and we especially loved all the flowers in bloom around the house. The bed was very comfy and the kitchen well stocked. Our host was easy to communicate with and very responsive to our questions. The location is very close to the Pygmy Forest with some great hiking.

Romance in the woods

Beautiful property with all the amenities imaginable. Wonderful outside patio with table, grill and umbrella. Inside full kitchen and all beautifully appointed. We could not have been happier to celebrate our 57th wedding anniversary there. All only 10 minutes from downtown.
