If you’re seeking an escape from the strains of everyday life, this is the place to stay. Yet, Poggetto, which sleeps between eight and 10 guests, offers an added bonus; it’s split into two apartments, so the villa is an ideal choice for a couple of families seeking some degree of privacy while holidaying together.

While the apartments are not self-contained, each has its own kitchen and bathroom and the mix of twin and double bedrooms adds further flexibility. If one of your party has limited mobility, there is an accessible bedroom, bathroom and lounge. Styled in chic, neutral colour schemes, it has traditional Tuscan touches, too, including exposed stone and brick archways, terracotta floors and wood-beamed ceilings. Surrounded by forests and vine-covered hills, the villa is a short stroll to the pretty village of Lucolena, so there is much to admire in the surrounding area. But we suspect you’ll spend a lot of time cradling a glass of local wine in the sunshine on the terrace.
