Spruce Shore Cottage sits on a secluded bluff overlooking Goose Cove, on the western side of Mt. Desert Island, minutes from Acadia National Park. The cottage includes everything you need to be comfortable. West Tremont is 6 miles from Southwest Harbor, a town with excellent shopping and several fine restaurants in every price range. From June through September we rent by the week only. All other months require a three-night minimum stay.


PETS: Dogs are welcome if they are flea-treated. We ask that dogs never be left tied up outside, and that you poop-scoop as necessary. There is a $65.00 extra charge (per week) for dog guests. The property is dog friendly. If you have furniture sitters, please bring a throw.

Very private location with good views of Goose Cove and an exceptionally quiet setting. Host was quick to reply to VRBO messages and the house rules were logical and included good local recommendations. The access to the water is a bit steep near the shore, but worth the effort to get the full view of the cove. Lounging in the yard was pleasant indeed.The cottage was well stocked with the basic necessities. We enjoyed warming up with the wood stove on a rainy day. The location is on the far side of the island from the main part of the Nat'l Park, but it's still a modest drive and is easily justified by the peaceful respite of the cottage. This will work for somewhat larger groups (we were a party of four), but would be perfect for a couple. We will likely be returning in the future.

First off, the view is wonderful! I could feel my heart rate slowing just looking at the beautiful cove and over to Swan’s Island. Incredibly private and so quiet. We’ve stayed at a number of VRBOs, but rarely one so thoughtfully appointed. Dog bowls, umbrellas, flowers on the kitchen window sill, plenty of towels, just wonderful. It is a camp, which is exactly what we wanted. The double bed was a bit snug because we are used to a king, but we still slept like babies. Weslyea was wonderful in switching our week because of a sudden work commitment I had to attend. If you are looking for a peaceful place to spend time on the Maine Coast, but be close to restaurants, Acadia and Bar Harbor, I cannot recommend the cottage enough. We will be returning.

We had a perfect week at Spruce Shore Cottage. We loved it so much that it was hard to leave for our planned trips to Bar Harbor or Sand Beach, etc. But, our one rainy day allowed us to curl up with books on the back porch or in the window chair in the main bedroom. The cottage had everything we needed for making meals at home, as well as comfy beds, a beautiful history, breezy days and nights, calming views of the tides coming in and out. Weslea has created a magical and welcoming place n this beautiful corner of Acadia. We’ve stayed on the Quiet Side many times, but had new adventures thanks to her introductory advice: we headed over to Archies for our lobster night, explored the nearby auto museum, and had a wonderful evening sunset kayaking on Long Pond. All fabulous. Thank you, Weslea!

The views, the seclusion yet with easy drives to Acadia and surrounding communities was perfect. The daily visits from the deer was a definite bonus. I would definitely recommend this home.

Beautiful location

Very serene and quiet, which was exactly what we were looking for on vacation. Close enough but not in the mix. Lovely rock beach to watch the boats.

Weslea was a fantastic host. The cottage is wonderful and clean, with lots of cozy touches throughout. We loved starting the morning sipping coffee and looking out at the beautiful view of the cove and watching all the birds! It was also a great home base for exploring the park. Our dog Guinness loved it too! The stars at night were also amazing!

The cottage is lovely and secluded--located on the quietside of MDI--it is nonetheless close to all trailheads in the park--approximately 30mn from Bar Harbor. The views on the cove are splendid and we spent many hours watching the birds and the stars on comfy camp chairs. The cabin is neat as a pin, well equipped, and the beds are really comfortable! It was a lovely retreat for two and would work well for a young family of three or four. Weslea was very welcoming and helpful! Thank you for the lovely stay!

What a joy to stay in Spruce Shores cottage while we explored Acadia National Park. The cottage is secluded, peaceful and full of many small delights. The view was amazing, as were the stars at night. We had two chilly, rainy days and we were happy to stay in and enjoy a fire in the wood stove. The kitchen is small but well-equipped. We made most of our meals there. Wesley was helpful and great with communication. We highly recommend staying here.

We really enjoyed the ocean view. This is our favorite part of the Island...The Quiet Side. The house had almost everything we needed for a week long vacation on Acadia.

Perfect Stay!!

The views are stunning!! The cottage was quiet and private except for the deer that visited us, we loved seeing them daily. Cottage was exactly as described, absolutely no issues during our 8 day stay. We enjoyed walking down to the cove. It was a perfect place for our dogs. Great location, on the quiet side of island but easy to get to Acadia every day. If we ever make our way to Maine again, I would stay at the cottage again.

Lovely View

Property has magnificent view of the bay and is a great location for someone with dogs. Cottage is clean, overlooks the bay from a screened in porch, and provides all the basics needed. Bed is comfortable and access to Acadia and Mount Desert is excellent. Check in was easy and the hosts were very accessible and helpful.

Beautiful view!

We had a lovely time. It was quiet, peaceful and had a beautiful view of Goose Cove. Our dog loved it too; he felt right at home. We were comfortable and enjoyed the breeze off the ocean. The screened porch was wonderful! Thank you for a great stay!

Serene and cozy!

Perfect stay on the Quiet Side! Cabin was so quiet and cozy, and the views are incredible. For anyone with an EV - there is an outdoor outlet right by the parking area, which was super convenient for some overnight slow charging. Thank you for the great week on MDI!

Private Slice of Maine

It's a quaint, no-frills rustic cabin. Modernish, mid-century americana vibe. Furnished with period artifacts, from cookware to paperback local lore. Everything needed to lodge a pack of travelers weary from trekking outdoors. Perfect location if you prefer doing things in Southwest Harbor over Bar. The real gem is the rocky waterfront with picturesque vista of the Gulf of Maine.

Lovely cottage

The cottage has everything we needed and nothing we didn’t. There is a beautiful view of the cove and access to it at high tide is just down a short path and slope from the backyard. Hiking, biking, and all Acadia National Park has to offer is just a short drive away. We had a great stay and the weather was perfect during the last week of September.

After owning a small antique business and working for Summer Festival of Art many summers, we moved here full time in 1999. I'm a poet and musician; Curtis is a photographer dedicated to film.

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade

An iconic spot at the end of Goose Cove. One of the most beautiful, gentle, welcoming views on MDI. We are privileged to own it and delighted to share it. Originally owned by the summer librarian of our small village, the property neighbored ours. It was given to the Nature Conservancy to sell and we purchased it with a promise to them and our neighbor to live there and love it, and not to "develop" it.
