Sobre esta propriedade
Third generation house
Our family home, designed by my grandmother, has been my family's favorite place to go for more than 50 years. It has one purpose--to allow a large group of people to stay under one roof and have a great time at the beach. The bedrooms are small so that the common areas can be large. It just feels right and cozy and homey. The details:
Upstairs level (beach level): Turquoise bedroom, 1 king bed, 1 half bath Yellow bedroom, 1 double and 1 twin, 1 half bath Green bedroom, 2 twins, 1 semi-attached full bath
Downstairs (road level): Left bedroom, 2 twins, 1 sink, and 1 half bath down the hall Right bedroom, 2 twins, 1 half bath Back bedroom, 1 king, 1 twin, and 1 half bath Former maid's quarters, 2 twins separated by a divider (very small rooms)
2 standalone showers downstairs shared by everyone in the house The laundry room is beside one of the showers.
The kitchen is well stocked with cookware, perhaps overly well stocked.
The downstairs has a common area with a TV if you need to escape.
Towel and complete linen service is provided.
The crown jewels of the house: The common area upstairs with dining, TV, and conversation and reading area (about 12'x 36') The front deck with a third of the deck shaded by an upper deck sunning and viewing area (about 12'x45')
If you want to be alone, you can find a nook to be by yourself. If you want to be with people, you can be with people.
The beach is a 100 foot walk down the boardwalk, down the stairs, and 50 feet through the dunes. the entire property is kept as natural as possible.

Rustic but full service
It's not new and light switches, doors and stairways have been there since before building codes, but it's got everything you'll need--and we arrived with nothing from a wedding event that consumed all our planning energy. There's lots of wood paneling and cupboards so it has a rustic beach house feel where it is easy to relax. Lots of seating options so everyone gets something comfortable. Plenty of beds, sheets, pillows, towels, toys, pots/pans/dishes. You will want for nothing.

Third Generation Property
It is an older house but has charm and a unique design. It's one of only two houses available that have 7 bedrooms and is beachfront. The main floor is upstairs and opens out to a two story deck system overlooking the ocean and adjacent dunes. We were the first renters of the season so rooms were initially a bit musty but that cleared up as the week progressed with people coming and going and the AC operating. We all enjoyed the house more as the week went on. There's plenty of parking on the property in front, which has been problematic in past years at other rental locations. My initial impression is that the pricing was a little high, but comparable to renting 2 smaller places needed to house our 7 guests with private bedrooms under a single roof instead of 2 locations. Lots of bathrooms. The owner is available and responsive to requests.

Dennis and his crew were great guests and were very willing to work with me on problems they found at the house. He is correct. The price is a little high. We will probably lower it somewhat beginning in 2026.

Would give zero stars if I could
This property was terrible, rundown and dirty. We ended up canceling and getting a full refund within a hours of arriving. Wet, dirty carpet, mold, watering dripping through ceiling and cockroaches. This property should not be listed to rent. The property owner was very responsive and gave full refund after I contacted VRBO, but we still had to find another place to stay last minute for 12 people. DO NOT RENT!

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade
My grandparents started going to Atlantic Beach in the 1920s. At the time there were no bridges or stores on the island so they had to bring all their food or go to the Curbside Market in Morehead City. As a very small child that could probably barely walk I remember going to the John Yancey Motel or the Atlantis and what I remember most was watching the raccoons raid the trash cans at night. We thought that was great entertainment.
A couple of years later my grandparents started building a house. My grandmother had badgered a landowner to sell her a small plot of land to build a house on. I barely remember walking around on planks while it was being built. My mother filled in some of the details about the construction later. Apparently the man that started the house was able to locate all sorts of exotic and interesting wood, but he wasn't very good about finishing things. I think my grandmother eventually got somebody else to finish it. But to this day, even though it's faded, you can still faintly smell the juniper in the hallway walls.
It's been the one permanent thing in my family for almost my entire life and we were grateful that our mother was able to pass it to us. It's something that could not be duplicated no matter how much money you had to spend on a house.
