The prospective tenant never stayed here and we have both agreed to retract our reviews, but we need to go thru the VBRO process so that is what we are doing. That being said, this was a comedy of errors from the start. John has no love for cats - he actually had a very bad experience with them recently (something about his dog killing a neighbor's cat and the legal consequences thereof) and he needed a very chilly room (he said 64 degrees) during a local heat wave. My listing on VBRO specifically says I have four indoor / outdoor cats, one of them is even pictured as the greeting committee. It also says the house has central A/C that I only turn on when the temperature exceeds 78 degrees (I have 40 solar panels, don't own a car, and am very concerned about the negative environmental aspects of over-using A/C). Hence the restriction which I think is very reasonable. All of this was very clearly stated on the VBRO web site. John did not apparently ready any of the property description details nor even look at all of the pictures - otherwise he would have known about the cats and the A/C. So he booked a listing that was absolutely guaranteed to leave him disappointed. If I had not clearly communicated all of this from the start I would certainly share some responsibility here, but what more could I have done? It was all put up on advance. If prospective tenants don't take the time to to read the property description - what can an owner do? And for the record, there are multiple counter areas in the kitchen, most for humans, one (the one dividing the kitchen from the dining area) for cats and I don't prepare food there myself. John never got to explore the full kitchen. There is plenty of counter space reserved for human-only activity :) He was here less than 10 minutes. I offered to charge him only for the two days I could not possibly re-book and gave him a refund for the majority (remainder) of his canceled reservation. He agreed and we parted company. I issued the refund 5 minutes later. I was surprised he left a review at all considering he did not even stay here and there are inaccuracies in what little he did say (which is not surprising given his cursory inspection of the household). I hope he (we) follow thru on our agreement to mutually retract our reviews, Sincerely, Stacy Spink, Owner / Resident
