The historically significant Casa Cheruy (also called the Craycroft House) has a unique and rich history. Mud adobe walls of the house were once part of the Territorial Fort Lowell Quartermaster Corrals and date to the 1870s. In the 1930 and 40s, the area became a desert artist colony and the property was the home and studio of french couple Germaine and René Cheruy who designed theatrical sets for avantgarde theaters in Paris in the 1920s and worked for sculptor Auguste Rodin. Noted architectural designer Veronica Hughart restored and added to the house in the 1960s. It has a luxurious desert and sophisticated romantic feel that embodies Tucson style.

This property is an elegant example of vernacular Spanish-Pueblo revival style architecture that was popularized in the southwest in the first decades of the twentieth century.
