Historic Cottage in Spring Green, Wisconsin

A meticulously refurbished cottage built in 1892 for Frank Lloyd Wright's eldest Aunt, Margaret Lloyd-Jones. With two bedrooms, a sitting room and a full bathroom upstairs, full kitchen, living room, and a half bath downstairs, the house can sleep up to eight people.
The house stands in sight of Hillside School, Romeo and Juliet, and Tan-y-deri, just south of the Wisconsin River in Spring Green, Wisconsin. This location provides easy access to Taliesin, and the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center, American Players Theater, two State Parks, and the many activities in the town of Spring Green.

Wonderful stay! Right in the middle of the action for the All Wright event going on at Taliesin. Host communication was very friendly and helpful. Aunt Margaret’s House was the perfect retreat for my All Wright weekend!

Potential to be great. Not very clean, screens ripped, grounds over grown, mirrors only im bathrooms, soap dispensers 1/3 or less filled and watered down, bare bulb lighting, dull and chipped knives, no shampoo conditioner or blow dryer. Location amazing, facility greatly lacking

The property was well maintained and clean. The biggest inconvenience was when I went to take a shower there was no bar soap provided. It was quite tricky to try to use the hand pump from the sink. The coffeemaker could use an upgrade. If the lid isn’t placed just right hot coffee spews out everywhere. And finally it was a surprise not to have TV; maybe emphasize that more somehow in the listing. Other than those minor issues it was a delightful stay.

Aunt Margaret’s house is a wonderful stay just outside of town near Taliesin. It is exactly as listed.It’s well appointed and comfortable.

This was a very comfortable cottage that suited our needs for a weekend in Spring Green to a T. Our host, Jeff, was patient and helpful with us as first-time vrbo customers and was very accessible when our keycode did not work. One phone call and we were in. Lovely place to relax in.

Wonderful tranquility

The cottage is beautifully updated and very well maintained. It still has the feel of your grandma's house. It's cozy and inviting, and the lower level has a spacious kitchen, counter seating, dining area and living room area. This is a great space to decompress, so if you want screen time you will have to bring your own. But we had a great time connecting face to face without them. I highly recommend this property.

Beautiful cabin

The home was easy to check into and was clean upon arrival. Everything that we needed was there like a coffee maker, toaster, fridge, WIFI, plates, cups, utensils, etc. The cabin has alot of historical reading inside which was really cool. If you bring kiddos bring some board games because if they like to watch cartoons that wont be happening here - there is alot to see in the area so you shouldnt need a TV anyway. There is a small grill and a firepit outside which came in handy. The cabins driveway emptied right out onto the highway so be careful coming out.Overall it was amazing and i would consider going back again for another visit. I have no complaints about my stay, it was just amazing to be able to see it.

Great location and comfortable

I loved the setting although the road noise was apparent, it settled significantly during the night. The cabin had a historical feel while being comfortably updated. The central AC was much appreciated. The suggestions though, would have likes tissues, in bathroom and guest rooms, many of the windows would not stay open so some blocks or props would help, large ants crawling in bedrooms was annoying, suggest some ant traps. Windows seem dirty and old bugs inside window sills. Finally keypad was fickle took a number of tries to open door, but no big deal. Would be nice to have some outdoor chairs to enjoy the back yard, ideally a table to eat. Finally some extra blankets would have been appreciated on the beds or available. But these are small in comparison to how much we enjoyed our stay,

The Perfect Location and Ties to History

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Aunt Margaret's Cottage and especially connecting her with the history of the area and the Lloyd Jones family. We truly felt enveloped in history from the moment we arrived and discovered what we were literally in walking distance to! The house is lovely and modern with all conveniences. One challenge we had was getting to sleep the first night but we discovered several fans in the house and used them to create white noise, blocking the traffic noise. There's nothing anyone can do about it and its not anyone's fault but we're grateful for the fans -- they solved it. We also had one small mishap but Jeff is one of the best hosts we've ever had with vrbo and he immediately responded and had the situation resolved that evening while we were out. All good! We also didn't realize that there was no television in the house. Being there during the Summer Olympics, fortunately we had our iPad with us to keep up. That was our fault for not paying attention but again all good! But truly the proximity to Taliesen, APT and the town of Spring Green is fantastic. We discovered some great restaurants and shops in town. And don't miss Cavern of the Mounds! Well be back! Thank you again Jeff!

Excellent location for nearby wedding!

Our group came for a wedding taking place nearby at Hilltop. We had a full house with people staying in both bedrooms, the downstairs pullout couch, and the upstairs futon. There were plenty of sheets, bedding, and towels to go around. Although there was only one shower, we had no issue staggering our bathroom times. We staying for another night after the wedding. We went swimming in the nearby Wisconsin River, and had a little fire in the fire pit out back. The next morning we saw a beautiful Luna moth out on the deck. Very pleasant experience all around.

Close to attractions

This is a nicely restored home that is incredibly close to all of the local attractions. Pretty much every place we visited was less than a 10 minute drive. If you are used to spices/toiletries left behind at other rentals, bring them with you. This rental does a good job of cleaning out what is left behind between renters. Our favorite part of the trip was not planned ahead based on common attractions found on the internet. We loved going down by the Wisconsin River at Peck’s Landing and hanging out on the sandbars.

Lovely property with historical connection to Frank Lloyd Wright family. Comfortable and well equipped with pleasant ambiance. Lots of warm wood and large windows. Enjoyed our stay very much.
