I have made a decision not to respond to reviews unless there are inconsistencies or misrepresentations in the review itself. I am responding to this review because the guest claimed that there are “hidden” charges and that there were no linens provided. We advertise on VRBO, a major competitor of theirs and on our own website. We make it unambiguous and clear - additional services may incur additional costs. We also request that all guests sign an e-contract as a condition of rental. On the cover page of this agreement we highlight in yellow the most overlooked items in our agreement. The following line is copied from this guest’s signed contract: “Sheets and towels are NOT provided. This is an additional service and must be ordered prior to occupancy.” Most of our guests prefer to bring their own sheets so we do not provide them unless requested. If we do provide the linens there is a reasonable charge. As for the security deposit fee, it is standard and within norms for Door County. While we do charge a security deposit, we do not get access to it unless we make a claim. It is collected, held and returned by VRBO. Full details are in VRBO’s terms and conditions. This guest had an issue with renting my beautiful home from the moment she booked it. She was upset that she had to pay tax (who isn’t?), but I am only doing this because I am legally obligated to do so by the various taxing authorities. She also was very annoyed that she had to pay a VRBO fee and blamed me for this stating that “if you did not offer your home on VRBO, I would not have had to pay the VRBO fee. ” (I also have to pay fees to VRBO) I do take, very seriously, guest feedback but I cannot come up with a fix for this one. As the guest stated, my beautiful home was “extremely clean and tidy! Well maintained and up to date”. This is true. What is also true is that my fees are listed on VRBO, my website and elsewhere.
