Erin, Wow! What can I say?? I am so grateful for your raving review! I am especially pleased that the house does not have any 'dog odor' even though we are super dog-friendly. I also appreciate that you recognize our efforts to 'clean green' by not using toxic products that are harmful to young children, all humans and dogs. We are grateful that we have had so many happy guests that appreciate & respect the house & forested property. It is unfortunate that this guest felt uncomfortable with the guidelines for a safe & relaxing stay. We were later informed that not only is this a 'hiking & beer' group, but they had a 8'+ flag with their club name flying outside the house. Thank you in advance for reading this lengthy but necessary reply to his unsubstantiated complaints. Please feel free to take a look at our listing & the many, MANY exemplary reviews from happy guests. In the house description, when potential guests are 'shopping' for a place to stay, the Ring doorbell (facing outside) is disclosed AND check-in time of 4:00 p.m. is specified. The guest did not inform us that he'd like to arrive nor check in FOUR HOURS EARLY. We did not send any message on the VRBO platform (nor otherwise) that the house was ready & he was permitted access before 4 p.m. He waited in the driveway while our cleaning team departed & INFORMED ME that he would be checking in (HOURS early). This was unacceptable, however we accommodated the guest by sending an early check-in option for $50 (for about 3 hours early at this point). When the guest reads, agrees to & makes the first deposit, the Ring doorbell (exterior of house, not interior) is again, noted. Most guests appreciate the Ring doorbell as a means of almost immediate communication in case of any questions, concerns or just kids that want to know what it is. The guest blocked the Ring doorbell from midnight until 3 p.m. We continued & conTINued to receive alerts from the Ring, so THEN checked to see WHY, only to find it blocked, which in our house description and rules is not permitted & reason to not return all or part of the security deposit. We contacted the guest on the VRBO platform, & after not receiving any response or acknowledgement for 45+ minutes, asked our property manager to make sure everything was in order. The property manager unblocked the Ring. The property manager did not go in the house AT ALL. When the property manager arrived, he found that the guests (evidently a 'Hike for Beer' club--not kids) had made a fire outside on the edge of the driveway near cars on this heavily forested property, and there is no firepit for that reason! We were advised to call the police, but chose not to. The property manager heard people inside, however the guests did not answer when he knocked. Thank you again for reading.
