Nestled just a 15-minute drive from the renowned Whiteface Mountain, 20 minutes from historic Lake Placid village, and serene Mirror Lake, this property offers the perfect base for your outdoor adventures.

As you arrive, you'll be greeted by the inviting porch, where you can sip your morning coffee and plan the day's activities as you listen to the East Branch of the Ausable River. Inside, the fully stocked kitchen, complete with a stove, oven, refrigerator, Weber grill, and all the necessary appliances, allows you to easily prepare delicious meals. Gather around the front porch or step outside to the fire pit and outdoor furniture for alfresco dining under the stars.

Originally constructed in 1840, this recently renovated home has pine siding interior, hardwood floors and rustic decor that complement the natural surroundings of the Adirondacks. Roam over five acres that include open meadows, a sunflower field, iconic barn, and pine forests, or stroll down to a secluded private beach on the East Branch of the Ausable River. A special feature of our property. New York State land directly across from the property protects the privacy of fishermen, swimmers and sunbathers.

When it's time to unwind after the days outdoor activities, cozy up by the wood stove in the living room and enjoy the cable TV, or challenge your family to a game night with the selection of games and toys provided. With the convenience of a washing machine and dryer, you can pack light and focus on making the most of your vacation.

We had a wonderful week in the Adirondacks and enjoyed this home very much. The house itself is wonderful and the location served our needs very well. There was one serious issue however. Our dog got her paw and face stuck in a glue trap near the wood stove. It was very traumatic for her as she tried to free herself and equally upsetting for my sister in law as she tried to first get the trap off the dog and then clean the glue off her. The dog was so upset that she wound up biting my sister and we were unable to get all the glue off her. The whole incident was really stressful and shouldn't have happened in a house that allows dogs and small children. I reached out to the owner and while an apology was offered, and the owner indicated that she would be considering alternate means of managing rodents, I was disappointed that our deposit, which was required for having a pet, was not refunded. Given the situation and the stress it caused everyone, it seems fair to me that our money should be refunded. Cora

Location canā€™t be beat. Great hiking and swimming close by and a beautiful drive to Lake Placid for more activities. The property has an incredible beach and fire pit. The house has everything you need including a washer and dryer for cleaning off clothes after big adventures. We loved our visit.

Gorgeous Home with River Access!

Everything was perfect for our stay at the River House. We found the address easily and check in was no problem. The house was clean and well stocked, and while there was no air conditioning, there were multiple fans that we used during our stay. The fire pit clearing across the road was awesome, and the river access was amazing! We spent so much time enjoying the river, floating on the provided inner tubes, and playing in the swimming hole. We might be back next year, we loved it so much! Highly recommended!

This property exceeded our expectations in every way. The house is much more spacious than the photos suggest, providing plenty of room to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Stargazing was absolutely incredibleā€”with an unobstructed view of the sky, we could clearly see the Milky Way. The river is a hidden gem: secluded, stunningly beautiful, and perfect for swimming, tubing, and fly fishing. It felt like our own private retreat. The property itself was spotless and immaculately maintained, with thoughtful touches and everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The location is ideal for anyone who enjoys the outdoors, offering easy access to hiking trails, fishing spots, and scenic drives with breathtaking mountain views. Itā€™s also just a short drive to local restaurants and a gorgeous scenic route to Lake Placid. Incredible place to stay!

We had a wonderful time staying at the river house. The river is beautiful and fun to relax by and play in. The location is perfect.. within easy range of a bunch of great hikes, swimming holes, and Lake Placid. We enjoyed making sā€™mores and star gazing. We did some cooking and grilling and had everything we needed. We would definitely stay here again!

Family Weekend

What a wonderful way to celebrate two family birthdays!! We can not say enough about how wonderful the accommodations were. The house was clean and cozy and the owner was easy to communicate with and went above and beyond to make sure that we had what we needed. The house is a short drive to Whiteface mountain and just thirty minutes to the quaint town of Lake Placid. We will definitely be back.

Amazing stay!

Myself, my husband, our two girls and our friends with their two boys stayed for a long weekend! It was in a great location to get to whiteface but also into Lake Placid.The house was exactly as shown if not better! Everything was beautifully decorated and cozy. The king bed and queen beds were really comfortable and none of the 4 kids said anything bad about their beds. The kids adventured on the river with some of the adults which was beautiful. We didnā€™t have to use the washer and drier but it was there if needed. Dishwasher was great to have! Lots of games to play at night or while relaxing during the day. Some of our group went to whiteface for the day and the Moms went to the Jack Rabbit trail to cross country ski. Responsiveness was amazing and everyone was helpful and friendly. I will suggest that they take more photos because the photos just donā€™t do it as much justice as it deserves. Thank you again for a wonderful 3 day weekend!!

Cozy Ski house

The home was exactly as described. Warm, cozy and properly equipped for our family. We were centrally located between Lake Placid and Whiteface. We had a busy itinerary, but when we were at the cabin, the family room and game table was where everyone gathered. Thank you for sharing your winter wonderland cabin with us. Hopefully we will be back again next year.

Relaxing getaway!

We enjoyed our stay here for Canadian Thanksgiving. The cabin is furnished and decorated perfectly to provide a real cozy atmosphere. Itā€™s exceptionally comfortable. The photos donā€™t do it justice. Very well stocked. Amazing privacy along the river bed. Close to trails. Excellent views of the fall colours. A short drive to the busy areas of Lake Plscid. Enjoyed Flume Falls and going on the Cloud splitter gondola up Whiteface Mon. Will stay again!

Nice, comfortable place for a group of guys who first came to the ADKs 50 years ago as teenage scouts. Still working on their 46, some harder than others, one in the group bagged number 45 & 46 on the trip. YEA BABY!! Great time. Hopefully not the last.

We enjoyed our stay at the Riverhouse. Everything was as described. The location was perfect and the host was excellent at communication. We highly recommend this place - close to lots of hikes as well as Olympic sites/attraction in Lake Placid. The host provided us with lots ideas of things to do and places to eat.

Great peaceful getaway

Overall we were very happy with our stay. You can hear the river from the house and is a short walk to it. The house was cozy and perfect for the four of us. Awesome dark skies at night. Everyone in town was very nice. The food at the Ice jam inn and restaurant was the best we tried in the area.

Wonderful Vacation Home!

We loved staying at this comfy home in Keene/Upper Jay. The house was very clean, well equipped, and we felt like we were in a homey cabin in the woods. We were there for hiking and it was well situated to trails both in Lake Placid and Wilmington, and everywhere in between! I loved sitting out on the front porch in the morning with my coffee and in the evening with a glass of wine and listening to the Ausable go by. When we walked across the road to the picnic area and saw the river and the beach, all we could think was "we have got to bring our grandchildren here!!" Trish is excellent about communications and sharing info on the surrounding area! We can't wait to come back!!

The river house never disappoints

This is our 8th stay at the river house, and we hope itā€™s a tradition that continues for many more years. Trish and Mark have put so much love into the property, the continued improvements mix the charm of the original house with modern convenience. The house is clean and filled with everything you may need on your vacation including clean comfortable bedding, all kitchen needs, a gas grill and board games. We enjoyed spending the days at the river and the evenings around the game table.

We really enjoyed your property, beautiful view, house, river. We wish we were able to bring a 9th person. Maybe in your listing, when it says pet friendly, mention that there's a fee per pet and right away mention that the dogs cannot get in the furniture or bedding. We brought our pet because he is a support dog, but the conditions you posted are difficult to follow. We got the email saying that a couple days prior to it. There was no way we could leave him in a kennel then, and for the money that we were charged to bring him, we could've gotten a nice place for him to stay. It will just give future guest an idea of how pet friendly your place is. How can you relax and change the way you and your pet live? it was stressful. But overall, you are so very blessed to have such a beautiful place. We are even thinking on getting a property around there. It was a wonderful experience, except for the fact that we don't consider it "pet friendly". Thanks for letting us stay at your beautiful place. We enjoyed reading past guest's comments, the notebook didn't have any pages left to write on. May God continue blessing you with the opportunity of having such a peaceful dream.

What a beautiful home! It was more spacious than we expected and filled with ADK character and charm. Everyone in our family loved hanging out by the Ausable, exploring the shore and tubing. A very special place!

Mark and I love traveling but prefer to live like locals wherever we go. Sharing our space with you will give you the opportunity to live like locals in the high peaks of the Adirondack Mountains to discover for yourself what makes the Adirondacks so magical.

Por que o anfitriĆ£o escolheu essa propriedade

Mark and I had been visiting the Adirondacks for years, spending time doing what we love to do when we aren't working: hiking; biking; skiing; kayaking; and paddling. We stayed at the River House our first summer as guests and fell in love with it. When we heard it was for sale we decided to take the plunge to have a place of our own... it has changed our lives. We want to continue to offer this magical property to other travelers to love and enjoy like we do.

Six miles to Whiteface Mountain. A private sandy beach on the river; fly fishing; hiking; biking; skiing...it's all at your front door. There is an outdoor shower to get the sand out of your toes after spending time on the beach or exercising in the high peaks.
