Sandwood Cottage on WI River-Huge Weekly and Monthly Discounts!

Fully furnished vacation cottage, located on the lower Wisconsin Riverway. UNWIND by taking a short walk down our path to our private Wisconsin River shoreline. RELAX, have a seat and feel the calm of the river flowing while you enjoy a fire in the pit and take in the sunset. Pause by the pond fed by an artesian spring trickling over the rock ledges. Think deeply as you walk the labyrinth. Identify the species of birds in the sanctuary or catch a glimpse of eagles, white pelicans, geese, turtles, deer and much more. ENJOY the creation around you.

Originally, this cottage was an Army officer's barracks at Truax Field, Madison, WI during WWII. It was moved to this Wisconsin River location in the 1970s. A family lived here until it was renovated in 2006 as a vacation rental.

With college cycling national championships in Madison/Waterloo the same weekend as UW, had to find something a bit further away for my son and I to stay between his races. This ended up being perfect--quiet, nice kitchen for preparing big meals, beautiful view of the river, easy drives to the venues. Travis was a great host. And my son did great--10th and 3rd, so it even brought good luck.

This little cabin is great, but the main attraction is the gorgeous river view. The fire pit by the river was such a treat after a day of hiking. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat!

If you’re looking for shiny new, modern, and sleek you won’t find it here. It your looking for homy cozy comfort you’ve found it. This is a nicely remodeled house with everything we needed. Clean, safe and all in working order. The owner was super responsive answering questions. If you’re looking for local food try Drift Bake House or Base Camp in Mazomanie or Cordelia’s Sweetshop for amazing “sin”Ammon rolls in Sauk City.

Awesome countryside retreat with an amazing backyard right on the river. We all had a blast, especially the kids, who were able to detach from the screens and forget about phones and TVs. Would recommend to any family looking for a quite nature getaway. We'll definitely be back!

Needed washcloths and hand towels. Enjoyed the fire pit by the river. Bed very good. Probably needs a coffee maker that turns off automatically. Overall very enjoyable. We didnt cook but oven may need some attention.

We rented this property for my parents’ visit, and what they walked into was completely unacceptable—borderline uninhabitable.The front window was visibly smashed and held together with painter’s tape. None of the windows had screens, making it impossible to get fresh air without inviting bugs in. The vents were so dirty that turning on the air didn’t feel like a safe option.Cleanliness was a major issue throughout. The bathroom contained used, slimy soap and shampoo along with what appeared to be used towels. The oven was filthy with burned-on food, and the grill outside was rusted and covered in residue. There were no basic supplies to wash dishes.To make matters worse, the neighboring property—also owned by this host—allowed their dog to roam freely into the yard, where it repeatedly defecated. When we contacted the host, his response was to leave a grill brush in the mailbox and a single dish towel. He then told my parents they should handle the dog situation themselves by speaking to the other rental guests.He also stated he would come by on the last day of their stay to “address everything,” which is not a meaningful solution when guests are already enduring these conditions.It is genuinely difficult to understand how this property has the ratings it does. This experience did not meet even the most basic standards for cleanliness, safety, or hospitality. At minimum, this listing requires immediate investigation.

Cabin on the Wisconsin River

The cabin was nice - not spectacular, but definitely comfortable, and affordably priced. A short path in the back led to a chairs and a fire pit on the river shore. We couldn't ask for more for the price.

Wisconsin River Retreat

This is the second time I’ve stayed at this beautiful cabin. It was once again wonderful. Peaceful, clean, close to the River, easy drive for food and outdoor activities. The owner Travis is friendly, easy to reach, and responsive. Highly recommend!

Peaceful, beautiful river getaway

A wonderful getaway retreat on the Wisconsin River. The cabin is snug and cozy, with great access to a little piece of the Wisconsin River. If you want to go to Spring Green or Madison, you can easily do so, but if you want to just sit by the river and see gorgeous sunsets, you can easily do that, too. The property owner was easy to communicate with and helpful. Strong recommend.

Two bedroom house on a Wisconsin River property.

The place was very clean, had two bedrooms with very comfortable beds, a well equipped kitchen, and a nice bathroom with a clean shower. It is a little bit of a walk down to see the river, but there is a very nicely mowed lawn area and 4 Adirondack chairs, and a big fire pit. There's a bunch of firewood very close to the fire pit. I met Travis, he was very nice. I recommend this place!!!

super flexible host

host let us check in early as it was available.. cabin is right on the road but a great quiet setting…the brewery in Sauk city has good food and drink, and we lived the little coffee shop next door to it… and great hike atGubraltar rock inly 20’ away
