This delightful, river cottage is elegantly decorated—making a perfect getaway for a small family . The living room, dining room, and kitchen provide excellent views of the Truckee River. The kitchen—bright, modern, and fully stocked—contains everything that you would ever need from preparing quick and easy lunches to hosting a full-on dinner party to celebrate Truckee living at its best!

Located right in the heart of Downtown Truckee, this property lets you walk into town to enjoy the great restaurants and shopping. This is the perfect place to return to after a long day on the slopes or a great spot to spend a summer’s afternoon on the river! Quick 15-20 minute drive to Northstar and Palisades!

Happy repeat visitors

Once again, an excellent visit to Truckee staying in our favorite rental house. The host, Gary, is responsive and attentive. When you say here, you feel like you are at a friend's house as the owners possessions around but are placed out of the way. It is very homey the kitchen is nicely appointed. Perfect for us. The location as fantastic. An easy walk to town and now a few houses from a new walking bridge across the river to walking and biking trails. We hope to be back next year!!

Truckee in town hideaway

Each year we fly out from the east coast to spend a week in Truckee skiing the local mountains with my son and his wife who live in CA. This was our first stay in Truckee River Cottage and we were very comfortable here. Gary, the owner could not have been more responsive to our questions and had many helpful suggestions including his favorite dining locations. It was like staying at a friend's house with a well equipped kitchen, comfortable living/dining room with gorgeous river views with afternoon sunlight pouring in. There was easy parking for two vehicles in the driveway with access to the private back deck. The bedrooms are well separated and the beds were very comfortable. This house is obviously not intended as a rental only as many VRBOs are, but rather someone's second home that they rent out occasionally. It is well stocked with interesting books, games and some of the owner's things carefully placed out of the way. It just feels homey and we felt privileged to be staying here. Unfortunately we were forced to leave two days early due to the blizzard of 24! Nevertheless, Gary was kind enough to offer incentive to come back next year. We can't wait.

The best of Truckee

This a sparkling, sunny, and sweet property with an amazing view of the Truckee river. There is enough sun on the deck even in the winter to admire the river view from outside. Also, being so close to downtown and the Legacy Trail make this the perfect place to stay and explore. Couldn't be happier!

Amazing Rental on the River

Highly recommend! The location is amazing and just steps away from the river and downtown Truckee. Everything we could of dreamed for our family getaway. Thanks for everything Gary!

I didn’t look up to date like the pictures

The bed weren’t very comfortable. The bed spreads were very lumpy, it was very dirty under the couch. It also wasn’t enough face towels for us. The owner’s clothes and things were all in the house taking up a lot of space and the furniture was different from the furniture that was in the picture. There was no heat upstairs so we couldn’t sleep up there because it was so cold. It just didn’t feel like a home away from home. When I go on vacation I expect to feel like I’m at home and this house didn’t feel like that.

Perfect Truckee Getaway

Adorable house in a perfect location. The house had everything we needed and the location was absolutely perfect with just a few blocks to town and 10 min to NorthStar. The Hottub overlooking the river was a bonus!

Central Location and Perfect Property for Families

When you drive up to the property, it looks small - but don't let it's exterior deceive you! There was plenty of space (3 floors) for our family and 2 decks which both overlook the river and gorgeous nature views. Its location was perfect for our trip - close walking distance to shops and restaurants and close driving distance to a lot of ski/snow resorts. Gary's check-in info was straight forward and the property was well-kept and clean. Gary was also very responsive to our questions. I would highly recommend this property and hope to have another opportunity to stay here again.

Mostly pleased

This was our first stay in Truckee and we came for a cross-country-ski vacation. Most important for us, the house was within a 20-minute drive of outstanding x-c ski areas. The house itself was extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean, with a well-stocked kitchen, plenty of bath towels, and lots of amenities. Having a washer and dryer was essential for us, given the daily workouts we had. The back of the house (and the deck) looks out on the river, with an attractive view. The house is within easy walking distance of downtown Truckee's many and varied restaurants, a real plus for us. All of the above met or exceeded our expectations. What fell below our expectations were two aspects of the location: close enough to the Amtrak/freight line, so we heard train whistles during the night, and the block itself is narrow, with a mix of properties in various conditions -- from well-maintained and refurbished ones to a few boarded-up shacks at one end of the block.

Cozy stay in Truckee

We had a wonderful stay at this property. There is an absolutely beautiful view of the river right outside the living room and deck. It was very cozy and convenient to downtown Truckee. It's only a very short walk to a wonderful bakery around the corner with excellent coffee and pastries. The property owner is very responsive and a pleasure to deal with. We could not have asked for more! We will definitely return.

Cozy Home

We loved our stay at the Truckee River Cottage. We arrived by train and it was a very short walk to the the cottage. The cottage is adorable. It has beautiful hardwood floors and an amazing view of the Truckee river. The beds were very comfortable and the oversized comfy couch was great to snuggle up in while watching it snow outside. The kitchen had everything you need, although we ate out. Plenty of delicious restaurants, coffee shops and inexpensive eateries are within walking distance. Downtown Truckee is a cute little town, with unique shops and is worth exploring. We would love to return and make the trip an annual event. Thank you for making our stay so comfortable.

Very cute bungalow located right on the river in downtown!

We had a wonderful stay. Location is fantastic! The views and sounds of the river are so beautiful. We enjoyed walking to town every day. We started with a short walk to coffee, cute coffee shop right on the corner! The wildlife was pretty amazing. From the kitchen we spotted a bear across the river! We all ran to the deck and watched it for quite some time. Hope to return!

Great Experience

Great Truckee Getaway

So very close to all the stuff in Truckee, we walked every morning and night downtown. The home is very charming and sitting out on the back deck watching the river was super relaxing.

River Setting in Downtown

Our stay at Gary's river cottage in Truckee was the perfect long weekend family getaway! The house was very clean and we loved being able to eat dinner out on the back patio overlooking the serene river. Also, the house in the perfect location in downtown. We ended up walking to restaurants several times a day which was awesome! Finally, Gary was the perfect host and responded to all of my messages within minutes usually! Thanks, Gary! We had the best time.
