The River House Suite - waterfront walkout

Nestled in the whitewater capital of Canada and cottage country, The River House is a waterfront grey stone bungalow with a red tin roof and a newly renovated, rustic, walkout basement level apartment with beautiful views of the majestic and infamous Ottawa River where each of the three rooms have a picturesque view of the water. There is no shortage of outdoorsy fun and adventure with some of the best white-water rapids in the world nearby. There is also some amazing mountain-biking and hiking. I live in the upper level of the home with my wife and daughter. We are quiet and private and happy to help with any questions :) We have had many very happy guests so check out our reviews and see you soon!

The River House is only steps away from the waterfront where you have access to a sprawling green lawn, sandy beaches, a dock and clean water to swim and play in. There are two sit-on-top kayaks and a canoe available for your use and you are welcome to BYOTs (Bring your own toys). For white-water paddlers, the public put-in is only a 10 min drive away and the take-out a 20 min drive. There is white-water rafting and white-water kayaking including kayak instruction, guiding and tours in 2-person kayaks available locally. Please inquire for more info. Flat-water enthusiasts have waterfront and beach access 75feet from the walk-out door. For mountain bikers and hikers, there is a network of excellent trails based just outside of beachburg and along the mighty and majestic Ottawa River for all skill levels. Please inquire. Road biking is also very popular in this rural and scenic area. Pembroke, a small city of 15,000 is only 25 mins away and has all of the amenities one would expect or require. The quaint and pleasant little villages of Beachburg and Westmeath are only 10 minutes away and also have many amenities. The cute, tiny and picturesque village of Lapasse, commonly referred to as ‘LA’ is a mere 45 second drive or a 2km walk from the River House and has a small church and a boat launch. There are two locations to purchase groceries and alcohol closeby, one being Kenny’s General Store in Westmeath and the other being the LCBO and Pronto in Beachburg. There are a few restaurants in the area, one being the very popular Whitewater Brewery. Please ask for more info and/or directions.

Great Property Amazing view!

The suite is right on the water with a great outdoor view. The bedrooms were spacious, the kitchen had the essential items, the outdoor furniture was enough for our group of 8. We were spending most of the days outdoor. The water was great for swimming and some life jackets were available. The entrance to the water had a sandy beach which was giving you a warm pleasant feeling. The Owner was living upstairs and was really nice, he had a boat and gave us a ride on the river. He allowed early check-in and late checkout. The suite doesn't have a real living room for hanging out; it had three nice bedrooms, reasonable kitchen with an extra room with industrial feeling. This room had two couches and a dining table to hang out on; however, because of the concrete flooring, white ceiling lamps, and boxes that were left in the corner of the room, it wasn't giving a living room feeling. The listing doesn't advertise the suite as a full cottage and I believe it was on us to ask and confirm. Because this is a suite and the owner lives upstairs you have to be conscious and careful with the noise. I hope that we didn't bother the owner much with the noise!

ONE OF THE BEST EXPERIENCES EVER!!

I dont know where to start. I was travelling with family and friends. All guys. Total of 7 people and it fit perfect. It was about a 5hr ride from downtown Toronto and the views leading up to the cottage was amazing. Checking into the cottage has never been so easy. The space was super clean and as advertised online. There was a fully working BBQ with all the utensils needed. Kitchen was fully equipped with everything accept food so you must remember to bring EVERYTHING you need from food/drinks/spices and whatever else is needed. We missed some items but there was a grocery store about 15min out where we were able to get all the remaining of what we needed. The view of the water was spectacular. There was a 2 person canoe, single kayak and a 2 person paddle boat there for use. Yes there were life jackets. There was people living above us but they never got in our way and respected our time there. The neighbors were cool and also was every other person I encountered when going for walks in the area. Very different from the inner cities. The calmness in the area was from the air to like everything was...something I havent felt. Very different from the inner big cities. This experience has been nothing but great. I definitely plan on coming back here some time in the future. A great place to just get away from the fast paced life I'm so used to. 9 out of 10 only because I didn't get a chance to meet Chad but he was away on a trip so it's a definite 10 otherwise!

Perfect place for enjoying Whitewater Region

This was the perfect place for us to stay while visiting the Whitewater Region. Chad is a very friendly and helpful host who gave us many recommendations for outfits for kayaking and rafting. The remodeled walkout basement level had plenty of room for our family of two parents and three teens. The beds were comfy and the view of the river is unbeatable. The bathroom is really nicely remodeled and the small kitchen is basic but functional. The grill was especially nice to have. Great water access with kayaks and a canoe for getting out on the river. We brought groceries with us but were able to run up to the Walmart and Metro in Pembroke for things we needed. While we were there, we really enjoyed: Whitewater rafting with OWL. A well-run trip and tons of fun. A full-day guided kayak trip for my husband and son and a three-hour clinic teaching my daughter how to roll at Liquid Skills. A very professional outfit that’s the real deal in taking your kayaking skills to the next level. The full adventure package at Chutes de Coulonge over in Quebec. Especially the zip lines and via ferrata. Crepes at the Nook in Pembroke. We really hope we can come back again!

I live in the River House with my wife and daughter. White-water drew me to the mighty and majestic Ottawa River close to 30 years ago and it holds a special place in my heart. I worked as a raft guide and professional kayaker on the Ottawa River and internationally for well over two decades. These days, I enjoy the River House and continue to enjoy many aspects of the beautiful and dynamic Ottawa River, from the white-water to the cottage lifestyle.
