Spicewood cabin is located in the heart of scenic Nelson County. Our family owned property is nestled in the Blue Ridge mountains situated right on beautiful Harpers Creek! Recently renovated, this 100 year-old cabin provides all the charm you would expect yet it is paired with modern amenities that will make your stay comfortable, cozy and relaxed. Spicewood cabin is a one story home making it family friendly, and accessible to those who aren't fond of stairs! We are only 16 miles from the base of Wintergreen Ski Resort which offers skiing, snowboarding, hiking, dining, family events and more! For our hiking friends, we are only 1/2 mile to an Appalachian trail head that will put you on the path to hike the summit of either The Priest or Three Ridges. In addition, we are only 5 miles to the magnificent Crabtree Falls, one of the tallest, cascading waterfall sets this side of the Mississippi! If fishing is your thing, we are located on Harpers Creek (trout stocked) and about a 50 yard walk from the Tye River. Our secluded property invites guests to sit back and stargaze next to the firepit while enjoying a glass of wine, making s'mores or cooking out on the provided grill. Dining in or dining out? Totally up to you as we are within 15-20 minutes from the Brew Trail in Nellysford, Va. Enjoy local brews, wines, ciders and food in beautiful mountain scenery! Devilā€™s Backbone, Blue Toad Cider, Bold Rock Hard Cider and many more are only a short scenic drive away! Unplug and unwind from the hurried life and enjoy the sounds of nature that surround you at Spicewood cabin. You will thank yourself!

The Spicewood Cabin was exactly as described. Nestled in a mountain retreat, it offered privacy and quiet. It's 20-30 mins from great hiking, breweries and wineries. The cabin is well stocked with amenities and we were not at a loss for things to do, games, movies, books. There's was no cell coverage which was perfect for our getaway. The WIFI was good when needed. The wood stove wasn't needed to warm to the cabin, but worked great as temps dropped 30 degrees during our stay. Looking forward to returning.

If youā€™re looking for the perfect getaway, this is it!! The property is darling! So cozy and tucked right off the road. We heard owls in the morning and had a beautiful fire in the evening. There are tons of hikes through the national forests and a darling country store. Just an hour outside of Charlottesville but it felt 1000 miles away.

The property is beautiful! It is a very relaxing, quiet place. We were sad the creek in the back was dry but the outdoor area is still very nice! This is our second stay at Spicewood and will keep it in mind for next time!

Comfortable, clean home with all the amenities we needed. Great property with fire pit, creek access, hammock, etc. A friend and I rented the cabin for 5 nights to use as a home base for various hikes. Property manager was responsive and helpful. A trip back may be in my future!

Loved the Spicewood Cabin. Perfectly placed near hiking and breweries.Sitting near the fire pit long into the night is a major perk. Cabin was extremely clean as well..

Great weekend cabin!

We loved being here for a weekend with our kids. We enjoyed the tree swing, the amazing firepit area, and the awesome creek access right behind the property! You are less than an easy 18min drive to trails, a cidery and devils backbone brewery! The cabin is rustic but worked for our little getaway. The beds are emmeory foam and comfortable.They have all the amenities you need and we ALL enjoyed the stay! We will be back here for another weekend getaway!

Wonderful Property

This was a beautiful little country rustic home. It was cozy inside and outside. It is a mountain retreat. Stop by the store for groceries before you go check in. The only thing I would change is to some tv channels. The two bedrooms are connected by a door.

Great Holiday Stay!

We had a great time. The house and property was perfect for our family of four. Close to Appalachian Trail and tons of breweries, wineries, and cideries. We enjoyed the day out exploring and then chilling around backyard fire in the evening. Definitely recommend staying here.

Overall really nice experience. Enjoyed relaxing and spending time with the family. Kids enjoyed the swing and board games. Patio area and firepit were the highlight of our trip. Cabin decor is welcoming and cabin is well stocked with basic essentials. Cabin could use some deep cleaning around base boards, corners, under furniture, and ceilings. Photos on VRBO are outdated. Kitchen has been updated with new cabinets and appliances. Pictures of the creek were misleading. The creek behind the property had little to no water and was disappointing. The pictures show a flowing stream of water with a higher water level. Recommend adding a stackable washer and dryer in the larger bathroom. Nice getaway with beautiful scenery. We would definitely return again.

Anniversary celebration - hiking and wineries

Beautiful setting with Stone filled brook out the back door. Very close to several hikes including Crabtree falls. Many wineries, cideries and breweries to visit. Kitchen was well stocked. Grill easy to use and wood provided for wood stove and outdoor fire pit. They have WiFi but no smart tv. Occasional pack of barking dogs and heavy equipment noise in neighborhood.

Our two families are very close, both in proximity and in our relationships. Heather & April are both sisters and best friends. Having been born in the mountains of Pennsylvania (but grew up in Virginia Beach), they have an innate desire and love for the mountains and any creek, river or stream they can get into! Luckily (for them) their husbands, Marco and Ress are also on board with their love of the great outdoors. Native to central Virginia, Ress knows all the best places to eat, fish, hike and explore throughout the region. Marco, a native to Virginia Beach, is always looking for the next big catch in the rivers, streams and creeks. Together, with our children, we love to explore, experience and rejuvenate in Nelson County. We believe that families need to time to reconnect with one another and we can't think of a better place to do that than at Spicewood Cabin in Tyro, Virginia!

Two families, comprised of sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles and cousins have always wanted a family mountain "get-away" on a creek and surrounded by the mountains. So, after several years of searching for the right place, we finally found our cabin in the perfect location for our families to enjoy all that the Blue Ridge Mountains in Nelson County has to offer. Now, we want to share our property in order to give others the same sense of peace and rejuevenation we experience when we arrive at Spicewood Cabin. Our cabin gives you that feeling of being secluded and away from the stresses of life, however, it is close enough to local attractions and most importantly, the great outdoors. It is the best of both worlds and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
