Remote-Work Longterm Ready! Near beach, 2/2 Townhouse/Tropical Garden, Discount
$300 discount on 28-day stay, June, July, August!
Our tropical 2/2 near-beach townhouse is a NON-SMOKER's dream... clean, quiet, spacious for work and play (over 1400 square feet).
WORK-FROM-HOME READY with great FREE Wifi, fully-equipped kitchen and Maytag laundry room off the kitchen. Then relax on the deck under the magnolia tree! 2 bedrooms with queen beds and adjoining bath (1 up, 1 down). Lovely private flowering tropical garden... enjoy beach walking, dolphin- and boat-watching on Matanzas Bay, dog-walking and ocean splashing in the uncrowded South Ponte Vedra Beach, in the north end of St. Augustine. NO worries throughout your stay--our Manager, Juan Mayoral, is available by phone for any needs, repairs, or touring suggestions.
SMALL DOG or CATS WELCOME: $150 fee. Certain dog breeds restricted, please discuss with owner. Blankets provided, please cover furniture where pets lie.
TOURISM TAX is 5% in St. John's County for all rentals; VRBO does not collect this. Kindly pay our Property Manager upon check-in (cash, check or money order). These funds repair and renourish the beaches after hurricanes, build protective beach shelters, bathrooms, picnic tables, parking areas--including the perfect beach access 5 minutes from our home.
HAVE CHILDREN or TEENAGERS? I am sorry, we are not set up for children in this mature community, but we are happy to welcome older teenagers with their parents. Per insurance guidelines, teens may not be left alone in the townhouse at any time.
LOVE GOLF? ANTIQUES? MUSEUMS? There's world-class golf at World Golf Village, and TPC Sawgrass Resort just up the road in Ponte Vedra. And St. Augustine is a history-lovers' and antiquers' dream come true. New to the area? Just ask, and I will guide you to all of the wonderful restaurants, museums, music, and fantastic water and wildlife venues you could ever want!
Guests say we are "perfectly located!" on the more private North Island of St. Augustine, 3 miles north of Vilano Beach. We are 30+ minutes from Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, yet only 8-10 minutes from the heart of the San Marco antiques district of St. Augustine.
THE BEACH: It's true--our beach is St. Augustine's "best kept secret"! Never crowded! 7-minute walk from our front door, or a 5-minute drive to a sheltered beach entry with showers, picnic tables, washrooms, lots of free parking, shelter and showers... beauty, peace and tranquility, all so close... And at your home-away-from-home, we have an outdoor shower & faucet to clean off that lovely sand that gets between your toes!
IF YOU HAVE KIDS: St. Augustine Beach, on Anastasia Island, is fun for kids and families, because it's on "the strip" of motels and restaurants. But there is a $10/day entrance fee (or $100+ annual pass), 4-wheel drive is required, and it's usually extremely crowded. It's also a 20-25 minute drive from our home in heavy traffic. (Can you tell? We prefer our beautiful north end of the beach, 5 minutes away!)
VILANO BEACH? We're just 3 miles from this charming little historic fishing village--with restaurants, fishing pier, and a drive-on beach entry--just across the Vilano Bridge from the antique district & downtown St. Augustine.
THE OWNER: I'm Dr. Diane Schneider. I was a theology professor before I "jumped ship" to do research and serve patients at Mayo Clinic hospitals for 9 years. I am still a Vibration Medicine Specialist who does therapeutic work in psychiatric hospitals and prisons. I fell in love with St. Augustine, bought The Vine-Covered Oasis, and lived here full-time for 7 years. I still love living at The Oasis part-time. I enjoyed decorating my home with beach-themed oil paintings, watercolours, and some tropical-style antiques, that might remind you of a beautiful Key West-style island retreat.
I decided to open up my home to long-term stays for adults who are looking for a clean, quiet place to relax and renew themselves in peace--or who need a quiet, well-furnished "home away from home" to do remote work. I'm an animal lover, so of course, beloved small dogs and cats are welcome, too. After a walk on the beach, my favourite spot is our 'secret garden' tropical backyard--where you can nap under the magnolia tree, or have a late private dinner outside on the deck, barbecue grill provided.
The House Manager team of Zoraida and Juan Mayoral are very welcoming, and will be a phone call away for any questions or needs relating to the home; they are both English- and Spanish-speaking. They are also fluent in sign language.
THE ROOMS OF THE VINE-COVERED OASIS: Now, for the interior of The Oasis. Please know that the pictures simply cannot do justice to the ocean colours and the light and airy feel and space of this home. Contact me to visit any time for a walk-through: 859-919-0082.
First, the vine-covered entrance leads to a red oak and leaded glass door with an electronic keyless entry (you will receive the code before arrival). The entire townhouse has tile floors except the carpeted stairs to second floor. A guest with some mobility issues could use a walker or travel chair easily on the first floor, but we regret the bathrooms are not actually wheelchair accessible.
There are two Master Bedroom suites. On the first floor, The Hemingway Suite has a lovely British West Indies tropical air: a Bernhardt pecan four-poster queen plantation bed with marble-top small dressers and bedside tables, a carved palm-leaf overhead fan with remote, and tropical artwork on the walls. The vaulted ceilings give a spacious feel. There is a large closet and the adjacent bathroom features a travertine walk-in shower instead of tub. There is a lockable door on the hallway outside these rooms, for complete privacy.
On the second floor, The Ocean Suite, in soft shades of green, is beachy and a bit whimsical. It features a pickled-pine spindle queen sleigh bed, overhead fan, and wicker/rattan dresser and bedside table. On one end of the room, there's a comfortable sofa (queen-size sleeper) and wicker coffee table where you can work with your laptop... or read and relax. (If you are a harpist, please speak to Dr. Diane--she can provide a harp!) The adjoining bathroom is light and airy, with travertine marble floors, 3 large closets, and a rare and delightful skylight over the tub and shower. There is an assist bar on the tub for easy access. Both suites have locking doors for privacy.
Downstairs, the dining room, with a beautiful glass-and-rattan vintage island table (very spacious for 2), flows into a high-ceilinged living room with comfortable sofa, 50" inch Roku-enabled television with cable, and ocean-themed artwork. Two wonderful matching Lane recliners flank the sofa--you will love them!
Sliding doors lead onto the glass and screened lanai, where a vintage table and chairs for 2 can be a cozy breakfast spot, viewing on the magnolia tree and tropical greenery of the deck and backyard. (A storage room on the lanai contains beach chairs, etc.) The garden, just outside the lanai, with its flowering plants is truly a spot for rest and renewal… .relaxing in the shade or having an informal dinner on the large deck. There is also an electric BARBECUE for use outside on the deck.
Back inside, the kitchen, just off the dining room, has granite counters, all Whirlpool stainless steel appliances, and is equipped with many helpful appliances ( InstantPot, large Foreman grill, regular 12-cup coffee maker, plus a new Keurig, a blender, and a rotating waffle-maker just like the hotels!) and a variety of plates and bowls.
Just off the kitchen is a laundry room with baking items and Pyrex storage bowls, and a large Maytag washer and dryer set. The washer is the latest technology that uses very little water, and "vibrates" the clothes clean!
TO SOOTHE, HEAL, AND REVIVE YOU: Dr. Diane says, "Life is jam-packed and stressful. I am honoured to offer a beautiful island of calm to adults who come in exhausted and drained from carrying many burdens. May my townhouse be a real oasis to you, a time of peace, and I hope that you leave feeling refreshed, blessed, and much healthier and happier than when you arrived."

Vine Covered Oasis
Great location within 15 minute drive of all major attractions, but far enough removed from the crowds of downtown. Really enjoyed the peace and quiet of the neighborhood. Within a five minute drive to three good restaurants.
Townhouse was well stocked with all necessary items to make for a very pleasant experience. Both the property manager and owner were very responsive to addressing a minor problem that we encountered. The property manager was an absolute gem and a pleasure to deal with.

We thoroughly enjoyed out stay. The property is very comfortable and well equipped. The beds were super comfy and loved the soft cotton sheets! (I definitely am a high thread count fan :-). Everything worked well lots of lovely hot water for the showers ( not always the case with VRBOs) We particularly liked the sunroom that got wonderful afternoon sun and was a great place to read or play cards. The location is phenomenal ! close to the beach and the cute town "center" with a Publix, a Chinese takeout and Surfside kitchen with the BEST pizza ever (be sure to try the pesto sauce instead of ordinary red sauce ---YUM! Very quiet neighborhood where the only thing you can hear at night is the sound of the surf! Be sure to try Aunt Kate's restaurant and the Reef if you stay here. Just up the road and dog-friendly!

Sobre o anfitrião
Anfitrião: Dr. Diane Schneider
Now I am a therapist and a professional harpist. But years back, while going to grad school at the University of Kentucky, I made trips to St. Augustine with my family, and after a few month-long stays, I fell in love with St. Augustine and vowed to live there someday. That promise took many years to fulfill.
Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade
The Vine-Covered Oasis was my first home in St. Augustine. I was a theology professor at the time, in a cold northern state, desperate to get to Florida. My family had already moved to St. Augustine. When I first saw the townhouse, I knew it required a great deal of TLC and restoration. So I moved in, and over the next 19 years, I have replaced almost every floor, window, and door in the house, repainted every wall--and bought all new appliances about 3 times! The location was perfect, so close to the beach... and the privacy of the tropical "Secret Garden" backyard was rare for beach houses.
O que faz essa propriedade ser única?
I absolutely love the vines that cover much of the house--though they require a great deal of care and trimming, in our weather. And I love the long view from the front door, through the lanai, into the cool greenery of the backyard. The magnolia tree was a gift in 2003 from my best friend, and it now towers over everything and blooms the sweetest-smelling, lemony flowers. The little banana grove fascinated me (growing up in Kentucky, where the only bananas come from Kroger's). As soon as I could, I had a glass and screen lanai added to the back, and I still listen to the rain while sitting back there.
My careers took me to Canada, Minnesota, and back to Kentucky for some years, but after I became a harpist and a therapist, I knew I wanted to return to St. Augustine. I had worked in hospice at Mayo, and with people who had developmental disabilities and psychiatric diagnoses, so I know that daily life is no picnic for many of us. I want my home to be an oasis for people who need respite, who want to be delighted by the little geckos and tropical plants... get restored and refreshed by the ocean breezes and the comforting beauty of this cozy home. I love staying here part-time, in between visits from guests. I look forward to hearing from guests who feel happy and rested in these rooms. Thank you for reading about The Vine-Covered Oasis, and I hope you will be a guest here soon!
