Great house-pool is a big bonus Our party ages ranged from a 2 year old to a 91 year old Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in having a great relaxing vacation

Best place we've stayed at LKG. Jim is a very communicative host with an absolutely stunning property. Our entire family loved our stay. Several comments from the cooks complimenting the cleanliness and how well stocked the kitchen was.

This was our family‘s first time at Lake Gaston. We loved the property we loved being able to use the kayaks and dock! We over all had a great stay! Jim was super responsive. The only issue we really had was ants in the cabinets. I know it mush be hard to keep a place clean with renters but it limited our families ability to use the cabinet space and we stored most items on the island or top of the fridge once opened. Over all it was a wonderful week!

We celebrated a family reunion at the home and it couldn’t have been better. Jim communicated every detail and was so very responsive to my questions. The house is situated near the end of a small cove which made it very convenient for docking and securing a boat. An excellent experience through and through.

Very nice home on the lake. Everything was as expected. Kitchen and dining are very well stocked. There was a little confusion at check in, but it was my fault for overlooking a message the owner sent. Lots of little extras throughout the home.

The kids l love the pool and hot tub. Boat dock worked well for docking are rented boat. we enjoyed using the kayaks. all of the bedrooms and bathrooms really worked well for all of our guests.

Perfect Place

We truly enjoyed our visit at the lake. This home was perfect and met all of our needs. Our family will most definitely be back.

This house was very well furnished. The AC worked amazingly, which is important to my family. The draw back to the house is the lake access. The listing gave more of an impression of good access. The weeds in the water are so high you have to swim through them to get to the open lake. Walking to the water is filled with roots and gumballs from the trees so you could twist your ankle easily and definitely need shoes! The “view” of the main lake is pretty good! The pool was nice but the surrounding trees kept leaves in the pool and on the pool deck at all times. A little blower would help to keep things off the pool deck. We had a good time but would have enjoyed more lake time.

Glad you had an enjoyable vacation overall. Sorry about the grasses in the cove, this is a recent problem (non-native grasses) that the powers that be are aware of and treating as they can. I don't think Rene's Retreat has ever claimed to be a "deep water" access. This years on going drought and slightly lower than usual lake levels has not helped but you can still get pontoons and small boats (25' or less) to our boat house no problem. The trees around the pool are great for privacy but if the weather is windy, they can be a nuisance sorry that was the situation during your visit. You and your family and friends were great guests, and we enjoyed hosting your vacation.

4 generation family getaway

Wonderful house, plenty of room and tons of fun games and things to do. Very well supplied kitchen, we never needed a thing! Wonderful flat yard with a great size pool and short walk to the dock with deep water for a boat. The lake is big with lots of docking spaces and little islands to explore.We would definitely stay again!

Great family vacation!

Our family of 5 had a wonderful time here. The house was very accommodating and had everything we needed for a week. We spent most of the week boating/tubing which the kids loved. The owners were easy to communicate with and responded quickly when we were communicating. It’s a great house for families with kids of any age and would definitely come back again.

Wonderful family get-away

House was big enough for our family of 14. Kitchen was well stocked with equipment for cooking. Having both the pool and lake available from the property was awesome!! Helpful to check with the property owner regarding beds, linens, etc. Owner was very friendly and responsive.

Family vacation

The location, size of house, amenities were all excellent. Only complaint was that the oven and toaster oven were filthy. Some of the pans were pretty nasty. Other than that we had a wonderful time

I am so sorry that this happened to you and your family. It is completely inexcusable! I was hospitalized and unable to come and oversee the details of the home that weekend and it has never happened before. You can be assured it will never happen again. I will contact you and see if I can make it up to you! By the other reviews you can see my home is normally pristine.

Our family of 15 had a great week together at the house. It was generally very nice and extremely well outfitted for all kinds of indoor activities and gaming. For our group, especially liked all the bathrooms and having 2 refrigerators. Easily able to watch World Cup and get on WiFi. Lake Gaston seemed clean and was pretty quiet too. Convenient to local food market.Our biggest disappointment was not being able to swim off the dock or side of the property. This is a big thing for our kids. They love jumping and bouncing in a lake and it was very shallow and reedy. This was also a caution for bringing in the boat we rented. The kids did spend some time in the pool, but we only found some older noodles, not the floats for the pool or lake. Having so many swim towels available though was great.A few other comments: The lower level of the house was much cooler than the first floor, but then A/C seemed to turn off in the middle of the night.House was very clean, but we did have some ants in the kitchen area and put ant baits around, and the barbecue grill had grease buildup.

Wonderful vacation home for large family

We so enjoyed our stay at Rene’s Retreat. The teens, young adults and adults LOVED the “toy/play” room. The Shuffle board was a HUGE hit. The kitchen was very well supplied. We rented a pontoon boat for a day. The pool was a Godsend on the hot days. There were 15 of us and we had plenty of room. Krys was so easy and a pleasure to work with. Thank you !

This property was spacious for our family of 14. The kitchen was very well equipped with appliances, cookware and serving pieces. Linens were in good condition and the beach towels were abundant. Weather had been cool so the pool was a bit chilly but that didn't stop the family from swimming. The cove was silty so lake swimming was done from a boat. The kayaks provided were appreciated and used. We were celebrating an 80th birthday and the house gave us the opportunity to be together for an extended time.

So many activities!

We stayed here for a week with a group of six families with five kids (1-6 years old). The house was super comfortable and spacious. We loved the puzzles, board games, kids books, pool toys, kayaks and stand up paddle boards! The kitchen was super well stocked with a mixer and baking equipment. We made s'mores every evening and had a great view of the meteor shower. It was a bonus that the house is conveniently located about 15 minutes from the nearest grocery store. Can't recommend it enough, we had a fantastic stay!

Such a lovely home, location and view. The layout of the house was perfect for our family of 6 adults and 6 kids. And amenities were superb with pool, hot tub, kayaks, fire pit, game room, plenty of board games and cards, large deck for eating family meals. No one could possibly be bored! The home was also extremely well supplied with kitchen items and the family room perfect for all of us to sit and play games. When anything came up that owners needed to be aware of Krys was very quick to respond. Thanks for sharing your home!Susan and Philip

great experience

Comfortable home to stay at. The pool was great. Lots of games and toys for the family to use inside and out. Appreciated the 2nd frig. Loved having our dogs there. The only location drawback was the property is in a cove which meant there was not deep water to swim around the dock area. Not the homes fault though. But we did enjoy having lake access for our rental boat. Communication has been great through the entire process. Great Experience, thanks

Great place for a family reunion

It worked really well for the children and adults. Kids really had a great time in the pool. Very well provisioned kitchen. Lots of games. Multiple TVs. Significant temperature differential between upstairs (main level) and lower level. When upper level was comfortable temperature the lower level was a little chilly. Good access to the lake (small cove off main body). Dock worked well for our rented pontoon boat and small fishing boat. Enjoyed using the kayaks and paddle boards.
