Escape with your family to our California wine country retreat, located on a hilltop in the midst of rolling vineyards, where the California wine country meets the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Just two hours from San Francisco. Swimming pool, bocce ball, rose garden, croquet, fire pit, kayaking, hiking, biking, outdoor games, and much more!



The Ranch



The Retreat at RedSmith Ranch is a stunning 7,500 sq. ft. Spanish Colonial style home recently restored for modern style and comfort. The home features authentic handmade clay floor tiles, hand-troweled interior plaster walls, wood-beamed ceilings throughout, large stone fireplaces, hand-hewn 2-1/2ā€ thick oak doors, among many other unique features. The dĆ©cor is modern rustic, with original mid-century art and furnishings.



The homeā€™s spacious common areas open to the outdoors with large windows and oak framed glass doors providing gorgeous views of the pool, vineyards, gardens, patios, and fountains. This home was designed for entertaining, with 16ā€™ x 33ā€™ living room and 19ā€™ x 28 ā€˜ family room both of which open to separate wood-paneled bar rooms. The home features a fully-stocked gourmet chefsā€™ kitchen, a large dining room with a hardwood table that seats 12, and kitchen seating for 8. The stunning master suite, kidsā€™ bedroom, full bath, and half bath are located on the first floor. The second floor features four queen bedrooms perfectly situated to enjoy sunset views, plus two full bathrooms. Sleeps 16. This ā€œSmart Homeā€ offers high-speed internet everywhere on-site, a sound system with three zones; inside, front and back with a total of 28 speakers to enjoy your favorite music.



The Site



The retreat is situated in the middle of hundreds of vineyard acres, with 4 acres of mature trees, lawns, gardens, and patios with fountains. A spectacular private experience! The swimming pool is a great place to refresh during the warm summer months. Birds and butterflies galore! There are eight separate patio areas, each with its own view, character and seating arraignments. Additional features include large areas for lawn games and meandering; an outdoor covered game area with ping pong, darts, card table; vibrant rose garden to enjoy. This winter we will be planting a vegetable garden for your enjoyment. The vineyard bocce ball court will be completed in late spring. Kids will love putting down their phones and running around this property - playing games, climbing trees, hunting for bugs, swinging on ropes, sleeping outside under the stars. At night the skies are clear, and stars are bright. Throw a log in the outdoor fireplace and catch up with old friendsā€¦.



The Area



This Lodi Wine region features award-winning large and small wineries open for tasting and frequent live music, all within a few minutesā€™ drive from the Ranch. Bokisch Winery is just across the road from the Ranch, makes for a nice evening walk after sipping their acclaimed Spanish wines. The Mokelumne river wilderness is 10 minutes away, for kayaking, rafting, and paddleboarding. Other nearby activities include cycling the back roads of the rolling foothills, hiking trails in the nearby lower Sierras around lakes and rivers (20 minutes), exploring the gold rush towns of Jackson, Sutter Creek, Mokelumne Hill, (30 minutes) and many more. Downtown Lodi (20 minutes) has the quaintness of a rural Valley town with thrift shops, brewpubs, and dining. There are also many fresh-picked roadside farm markets to enjoy the local bounties of the season, plus home-made pies!.

Loved this property and owner! The second year in October that we've stayed. We're a group of 14 family mother/daughters ages 24 to 92 yrs. The house is perfect for all ages with 4 bedrooms downstairs for older family members. We sat 14 at the dining room table which is a huge plus for meals and playing games.The grounds are beautiful. We relaxed around the pool and had a fun, spirited game of bocce with the lit court.Kitchen has everything you could ever need.Two refrigerators held everything we brought.Del, the owner, is very accommodating and went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed for a five star stay. I can't say enough about this very special house and it's owner.

Unmatched Hospitality

We had a great time at our Friendcation at the Ranch this year! The hospitality was second to none, with constant communication and assistance when issues arrived (broken dryer, meant daily laundry service until they could replace it). Itā€™s a ranch so critters are too be expected but it was handled with professionalism and timeliness. So much space for our group to spread out, pool was wonderful, and hot tub too! We plan on coming back year after year as our tradition home!

We stayed for the weekend and had the most wonderful time.. The house was amazing. Everything was perfectly clean. We loved the outdoors and we danced inside and outside. There were so many things to do. And we also enjoyed some time at Bokisch winery across the street. It was perfect!

The house was beautiful and surrounding area was breathtaking. There was a lot of equipment to keep us busy. Archery, croquet, cornhole. We did our own meals and the kitchen was well stocked with a fabulous Stove. It was a wonderful experiece for my family.

Girl's weekend

Wonderful stay!

This has to be one of the best homes we have ever rented! The house itself is so spacious, so many seating areas. Outside areas are fantastic, we enjoyed playing all the games and using the hot tub. Del was extremely welcoming and everything was explained well. We will be back!

Wonderful family vacation

Incredible Home in Wine the Heart of Wine Country

The home is amazing! We use the home for our annual board meeting. The beds were so comfortable, kitchen was large and and everything we needed. Del was amazing to work with and made sure our stay was perfect. I would highly recommend his home!

Relaxing Long Weekend

We had a great long weekend at RedSmith Ranch. We had 4 adults and 4 kids in our party and the property was perfect. There is more than enough space, the kitchen is stocked, the pool and hot tub are fantastic, and the archery and games were a great added touch and provided plenty of entertainment for everyone. Del was a pleasure to work with and we look forward to our next trip!

Celebrating Billā€™s 80th birthday with a family vacation

The home was exactly as described in the listing, and being there in person was simply marvelous. There are so many places where we could visit as a small group or get away by ourselves to read or to play with all 16 of us. There were plenty of places where we could eat as a group of 16 or have appetizers before dinner in a different location. It felt like we were at a resort. The view from the swimming pool reminded us of both Spain and Italy. The kitchen was fabulous and allowed us all to participate in cooking together. We planned a patio boat rental for one day of the week that included a spiral slide down from the second floor, a bathroom, and a grill. It was a perfect get away. Midweek.

Beautiful Property

RedSmith Ranch is a beautiful property with so much to do. From the pool, basketball hoop, to archery, you will never be bored. We hosted our wedding on property, and there was plenty of space for rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception dinner and dancing. There were also endless places to take photos. The Ranch exceeded our expectations and I truly could not have imagined a better place to host our family and friends for our wedding.

Quintessential California Getaway

Floating in the pool while gazing out at the vineyard, picking vegetables from the garden, grilling under the citrus trees, practicing yoga under the redwoods, strolling through the rose garden under bistro lights... the ideal place to get away and experience Californiaā€™s casually elegant beauty. And the house is beautiful, too! Many different little pockets for people to hang out and relax. Really like your own private resort.

Fantastic weekend for group of women

Stayed the weekend with 12 women for a 40th birthday and had a fantastic time! Clean, easy, comfortable. Went out wine tasting, brought in a chef for a dinner, made fancy cocktails at the beautiful bar, and relaxed in the hot tub. We caught very cold weather and STILL the house feels like a resort and we didn't want to leave.

Most memorable weekend!

We had our intimate wedding at RedSmith Ranch, with our families staying on the property. It was the most incredible weekend of our lives. The house and property continued to amaze us and our guests. All of the rooms were comfortable and beautiful, the property was breathtaking, and the houseā€™s ability to host such a beautiful event was unmatched. Del Smith and Jennifer Redmond partnered up to acquire the Ranch. Del is a Building Contractor. He grew up in Lodi and, in 1983, founded, developed and operated Wine and Rose Hotel and Restaurant (in Lodi) for 20 years. Del later moved on to build restaurants and commercial stores in the San Francisco Bay Area. Del has never lost his passion for hospitality and taking care of guests. Jennifer is an attorney, partner with Sheppard Mullen law firm. She has a passion for interior design and throughout the years she has completely restored and refurbished several amazing San Francisco homes. Together we make a great team.

We love living in San Francisco, and like to get out of the city to hike, bike and explore. We thought it would be fun to combine our talents and find a place in the countryside that we could fix-up and enjoy with our family and friends. And find some sunshine! We wanted a home with character, where we could create a wonderful and warm experience to share with our guests. We looked north to Sonoma, South to Carmel, and then visited the Sierra foothills near the Mokelumne River, where we realized the Lodi Wine Region had everything we were looking for. And it just happens to be Delā€™s hometown! After searching for months, we came upon the Ranch. It is isolated in the middle of hundreds of acres of vineyards. The home has great character, wonderful light, spacious rooms, established trees and gardens, and is perfect for what we wanted to create. There is even a great winery across the road, Bokisch Winery. We closed escrow in late June 2019 and spent the rest of 2019 updating, modernizing, and refurbishing the interior. While Del was working on the physical elements of the house, Jennifer was busy with interior design and purchasing of high-end, previously-owned furnishings and artwork extending the sustainability and beauty of the property. The dĆ©cor is modern rustic with a California Spanish flair. Itā€™s also a ā€œSmart House,ā€ with lighting control, air control, music, door locks, site security, sprinklers, etc. all automated.

We have a number of experiences to offer our guests, which may include early morning vineyard/orchard tour with an old- farmer, paint classes, gardening classes, farm to table cooking classes, yoga and mindfulness, Indian camp and bug science for kids, photo Safari, crafts for kids, base camp for Sierra foothill adventures (kayaking, hiking and cycling), tours of 90+ nearby wineries, etc.
