House was nice and beach access was easy. On the west end of the island, so a bit of a drive to groceries and shopping (but nice for being away from it all). Enjoyed our stay. Owners were easy to communicate with and responded quickly to questions.

4th Outstanding Stay! 3

A Sand Dollar Dream remains our favorite beach house ever after 4 outstanding stays. The kitchen has any and everything needed to prepare meals, the beds are super comfy, and the views are amazing. Mike and Kim are wonderful hosts--helpful and easily accessible. We hope to return next year--we love this house!

Beautiful home, wonderful vacation

We had a wonderful vacation at A Sand Dollar Dream. The house is beautifully decorated, clean, with incredible beach/ocean views and access! We had 9 people from ages 3-58 and this house accommodated everyone well including toys, games, and movies for the young kids and books, quiet spaces, and a fully equipped kitchen for the adults. There are also at least 10 beach chairs at the property which made it so nice not to have to travel with ours. Mike was incredibly kind and hospitable. He was promptly responsive and accommodating anytime I reached out. We would 100% recommend and stay at this property again. The only things I would point out is that there are several stairs with the majority of the rooms on the 2nd floor and the kitchen/living on the 3rd. This wasn't a problem for us, but if you have someone in your party that has difficulty with repetitive stair climbing it's just something to consider. You also have to bring your own bed linens and towels.

Loved our beach va-cay!

The Sand Dollar Dream was a great place for our family of ten, 6 adults and 4 children. I loved that each bedroom had its own bathroom, and that the outside shower had hot water! The location was perfect; the beach near the point was uncrowded. We had perfect weather and a great time! The kitchen was the best stocked of any vacation rental I have had. The only drawback to this rental was having to provide linens.

Beautiful house. Perfect location.

A Sand Dollar Dream is a beautiful beach house in a perfect location! It had everything we needed for our family of ten. The kitchen is well equipped. The bedrooms are spacious, each having its own bathroom. There was plenty of space for our adult children to have some privacy, and a large open living/kitchen/dining area for our family to be together for meals, movies, and games. The accommodations were even better than expected... this is truly a beautiful home! Mike was friendly and quick with communication. The dryer was not working properly when we arrived, and the owner resolved the issue the same day we notified him. We would definitely consider renting this beach house again, and will recommend it to others. Thank you Mike and Kim for sharing your lovely home with us!

Three-timers!

This was our third stay at A Sand Dollar Dream. Needless to say, we love this house! Comfortable beds, a well-stocked kitchen, a cozy living room area, great deck space, and amazing views--what more could a person ask for? Mike is so friendly and super responsive to questions and concerns--he and Kim are wonderful hosts. Beach access is a bit more difficult than it was in the past--persons with mobility issues may have some difficulty with the steepness of the dune path, but by no means does this affect this lovely home's 5-star rating! Thank you for sharing A Sand Dollar Dream with us!

Great Location Great Kitchen

I would stay here again! The house was clean and had a great architectural look. It could easily hold two whole families with plenty of room. I liked having the guests on the 2nd level and us on the 3rd with the kitchen. I can’t stress enough how awesome the kitchen is stocked. I cook at home and like pots of different sizes and all the necessary utensils. I LOVE the six-high burner stove top. We have the same brand at home. I seared steaks and hamburgers and made two colossal seafood boils on this stove. We had another family over for July 4th, and we had 13 people eating at the dining table and two more extensive counters. Never felt crowded. We love this part of the island; not crowded. So, don't tell anyone! The house also had a closet of beach chairs and a few umbrellas. We brought all the extras like hand soap, dish soap, garbage bags... But a few additions were around if needed. Overall I would rent again.

A Sand Dollar Dream in Oak Island, NC

Thanks to an easy rental process, timely and useful communications with our gracious landlords, our family beach trip was a huge success! The house was terrific for our entire group. Its location and many amenities makes it a real standout in a very popular ocean front community. We all look forward to returning again to this home away from home.

A Sand Dollar Dream

I was really excited when I found this house listed on VRBO. I thought it would be perfect for a family reunion, and it was! The house was exactly as described and pictured, except that the dishes and cookware were superior to anything else I've encountered in a rental. Mike was always available for communication and to fix any problem we had (only one minor one.) We had an extra special treat our last day of vacation. A clutch of loggerhead turtles hatched right next to the plot of beach we had claimed. Conservationist staff was on hand to aid the process. Sixty-two babies made it to the ocean that day, and we were there to see it all. I highly recommend A Sand Dollar Dream. The only reason I gave it a 4 for cleanliness was that there was a little sand in my bed that I had to remove before making the bed. You won't be disappointed in this house.

Perfect Family Getaway!

We stayed at A Sand Dollar Dream and it was truly the perfect house for our two families with small children. The property is exactly as described and as shown in the pictures. Mike was incredibly responsive to any inquiry. The house is perfectly located where you get pretty open beach space right behind the house and the windows/deck provide amazing water views all day and is just a quick drive to the point to change up the beach scene and look for shells. It's not easy to tell in the pics but accessing the beach would be a little challenging for those with physical limitations as you have to walk up and over the dunes (very short walk, just a hill that would be hard for some). Overall we are so happy with our stay and would definitely come back again!

Home away from home!

A Sand Dollar Dream is a gorgeous property! Very tastefully decorated, all bedrooms a dream, a well-stocked kitchen with everything you need for cooking, upper and lower deck well maintained with comfortable outdoor furniture to relax and enjoy the ocean breeze! Definitely top notch!!

Two families with teens

We loved this property. The view was breathtaking. Working with the owners was easy and they were fantastic. We loved being able to easily head to the beach and go back and forth to the house as needed. The area had plenty of access to stores without being overly touristy like Myrtle or OBX. Definitely a must repeat home and location.

Picture perfect and more

The views! From the kitchen/living room and the 2nd floor queen bedrooms are amazing. Surprisingly clean given it is ON the beach. Coffee maker/ keurig combo was very clean. There are no longer stairs down onto the beach so even more accessible, very easy to walk around the dune, perfect for stopping off to rinse feet and take outdoor shower. Plenty of space to spread out on the beach, no crowds. Only a short .5-1 mile walk to the Point. My 70 year old parents found the 3rd floor bed extremely comfortable. I can’t say enjoy good things about this place. Mike was easy to communicate with and very helpful with last minute questions. Best VRBO experience on oak island in the last 7 years

Loved the home. But hurricane Isaias had other plans for us

Wish we could have stayed all week as this home was wonderful for our needs. Homeowner was very easy to reach and was concerned about our safety during and after the storm.

Happy Place Found!!

This property is amazing--easily our favorite beach house ever! The views are "wow", and the house is literally right on the beach. The kitchen has everything needed to cook family meals (super important during this Covid-19 mess :) )--it even has storage containers for leftovers! The beds are comfy, the bathrooms are clean, and the entire house is decorated so nicely. Books, games, puzzles, and movies are provided for rainy days or nights in with your family. The owner is helpful and responds quickly to questions. All the little extras make this a Sand Dollar DREAM! Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. We cannot wait to come back next year!

Hello! Our names are Mike & Kim Ouimet. We recently our home in Nov 2019, and are excited to call A Sand Dollar Dream our 2nd home. We have been married for 25 years, and have 2 grown children. We have been living right outside Charlotte, NC for over 24 years now, where Mike is the founder of an IT Company that he has owned for 18 years. We have been enjoying the beautifully unique NC Coast with our family for many years, and are excited to have found this home to enjoy here on Oak Island. We take great pride in our home and making it a comfortable and memorable vacation for our guests. Kim loves to decorate and has filled the home with seaside decorations and themes. Kim is also a wonderful cook and has stocked the home with a large array of cooking utensils and supplies.

Outside of the busy rental season, A Sand Dollar Dream is our second home. We strive to keep the home in excellent condition while maintaining a comfortable home like family and friendly atmosphere. While the home offers many unique features, some of our favorites are the location and floor plan.

Located on the west end of the island, the home provides a private beach experience. You will not need to compete for a spot on the beach as the closest public beach access is at the very end of the island. The home is also located next to an open lot which provides convenient and private access to the beach.

The homes floor plan was one of the initial features that attracted us to the home back in 2019. The homes design was uniquely influenced by the designer and initial homeowners lineage to Japanese culture and architecture.
