This unique oceanfront vacation home in Oak Island is ready for your getaway with enough space to sleep 11. When you’re not just outside Summer Salt’s backdoor taking in the sun and surf, the open floor plan of the house is great for family time!

The main floor includes 2 bedrooms, a full bath, a deck off the dining area on the street side, and a large oceanfront deck. The the upper floor has 3 more bedrooms, a full bath, and an oceanfront balcony off the upstairs primary bedroom. On the ground floor, there's an additional shower in the laundry room that is equipped with a full-size washer and dryer.

Enjoy your front row seats to sunrises and sunsets from the spacious oceanfront deck! The deck offers new rocking chairs, chaise loungers, and a picnic table.

Summer Salt is conveniently located on the beautiful west end of Oak Island and is just minutes from the mainland and 3 grocery stores – Publix, Lowes, and Food Lion. When you’re not relaxing and swimming at the beach, there’s so much more to do during your visit. Enjoy fishing at the Ocean Crest Fishing Pier, take a helicopter tour with High Tide Aviation, book a deep sea adventure with Oak Island Fishing Charters, check out Jungle Life Mini Golf and Oak Island Nature Center, visit the local beach shops and farmers market, climb to the top of the iconic Oak Island Lighthouse, and let someone else do the cooking while you enjoy all the great Oak Island restaurants! The quaint village of Southport on the Cape Fear River is just a 20-minute drive away with great shopping, restaurants, and sight-seeing. Named the most romantic coastal town.

We loved this house! It was very cozy and comfortable and we literally were steps from the sand. It looked exactly as pictured and was very clean. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. And this is a great place for little kids (built-in baby gates at the stairs) and tons of sand toys and an inflatable pool. Plenty of beach chairs and towels too. The stairs, while they looked a little tricky in the picture, were very manageable and the view of the beach from the second floor balcony is definitely worth the climb. We used the bedrooms on the main floor but did go downstairs to use the washer/dryer. The owners were incredibly kind and responsive. We will definitely be back!!

Beach heaven!

My family loved their stay at “Summer Salt”! We loved being SO close to the beach. Even my elderly father was able to make it to the water to sit and cool his feet. The stairs to the top level are a little tricky but didn’t bother us. Haag and sons fish market is great and we really enjoyed taking the Fisher island ferry for a day trip to the aquarium and into Wilmington.

Great house great location

House was beautiful and location couldn’t be more Perfect. I don’t want to seem too overly detailed as I’m satisfied with my stay but I wanted to mention a couple things: There’s a spiral staircase which can make carrying luggage hard. The bedrooms do not have outlets or nightstands on both sides of the beds and luckily I thought to bring power strips with long cords that worked for my CPAP. In and out was easy and owners checked in via messaging to make sure everything was okay. Please note there are no thick shades in any room and the curtains are see-through so the main bedroom on the first floor with sliding doors was a bit awkward for changing clothes in as you could see right into the bedroom from the deck. None of this would prevent us from staying here again but I think it’s nice things to know ahead of time. We really enjoyed the place. Don’t hesitate to rent it.

Would absolutely stay again!

We had a week long family stay here and would definitely stay again. Location is perfection. You are just steps from the beach. The porch is good size, we were even able to put a kiddie pool on the deck for when the kids (and adults got tired of the waves). The kitchen is well stocked meaning any size pot or pan or casserole dish you could possibly want. They even had a blender! The inside stairs are a bit tight for the huge suitcases so would recommend bringing a strong person or a reasonably sized bag (I of course over packed). Baby gates work well and lock…much appreciated. My husband likes to sleep in an ice box so he was a bit warm sleeping but they do provide an extra large stand up fan that you can move from room to room if needed. We also were there during a heat advisory…so kinda like…what do you expect at the beach in august!?! A truly great stay with very responsive hosts! We are most grateful and would absolutely stay again!

Great home base at Oak Island

The standout features of this house are the prime beach placement (you walk straight from the deck onto a private beach access path - you don't have to walk up or down the beach to cross the dunes like you do in many places along Beach Drive) and the deck (one of the few beachfront decks with covered areas). Beds were comfortable and house was thoughtfully stocked. Furniture was comfortable and the open living area on the first floor was great too. We noticed some housekeeping issues inside (a little bit of sand on the floors) and the outdoor furniture and windows all needed cleaning the first day, but the hosts were so warm and friendly that we were happy to do that little bit of work for ourselves. The kitchen is a little tight for families that are expecting to cook regularly in the house, particularly if that would be a group activity (but why wouldn't you go to the great seafood restaurants on the island and in neighboring Southport?). The staircases and upstairs landing railing are both designed for adults who are quite sure of their footing: I wouldn't want to plan on children younger than about 8 using the stairs on their own. Overall, we really enjoyed the property and it would be at the top of our list for a return visit.

Super responsive hosts!

Responsive hosts when we had questions. We had a minor faucet issue and the hosts immediately called in a great handyman to take care of the issue. This is a well cared for property in a perfectly glorious spot of Oak Island! I loved the stocked kitchen, spacious bedrooms and light-filled living room /main room.

College Girlfriends Trip

What a great place to stay! So incredibly close to the water, great deck and perfect views. The kitchen was fully stocked with just about anything you could need and came with a decent amount of spices - the most that I've ever experienced with a rental. Summer Salt was great for our group. I will say the stairs aren't for everyone but the space totally worked for us. I cannot tell you how incredible it was to work with Melissa, the property owner. So incredibly welcoming, kind, and prompt with answering questions about the property.

Beautiful beach house

The house is beautiful and very clean. The kitchen was well stocked with appliances and utensils. A brand new fridge arrived the day we checked in which was nice. It was nice having 2 fridges to stock items. We appreciated the short walk to the beach when hauling all of our beach chairs, toys, etc. The back porch has wonderful views of the ocean and plenty of rocking chairs for all 6 adults on our trip. We had two small issues that we mentioned to the owners and they were very quick to respond and get the issues resolved promptly. These issues did not affect our stay (one a leaky outdoor shower) and more so we mentioned so the owners wouldn’t have a large water bill. One thing to note is the stairs could be difficult for older individuals or individuals with mobility issues. Overall are stay was wonderful and we could have not asked for better owners to work with. Thank you Melissa and Mike!

Stunning views, lovely little house!

Lovely home and the owners are wonderful to chat with! Very responsive and just the kind of folks you want to find to rent from on VRBO. Highly recommend! You won't be sorry if you rent this house. The good: OCEANfront. Really ON the ocean. Wonderful views and fabulous, large, covered deck for enjoying the beach view and ocean air. Main living areas are modern and tastefully decorated, with comfortable furniture. The kitchen is modern and fully stocked with just about everything you could want, including really cute dishes. Every room in the house is light and airy feeling. The bad: actually there isn’t anything bad about the house, but a little caveat emptor: this a great little house, emphasis on the little. If you are coming with a bunch of people that enjoy each other’s company this is a wonderful place! The bedrooms are comfortable but not spaced apart by much, and the 2 bathrooms are small with little storage space for the amount of people that the house will hold. Not a negative, just a heads-up. Again, the house was very comfortable, the owners were great to work with, and the location was the best! I wouldn’t hesitate to rent this home again or recommend it to friends.
