The ARTIST'S RETREAT CARRIAGE HOUSE is a Beautifully Decorated one bedroom (King bed) Carriage House situated in a Very Private Wooded setting, at the end of a private road. The TRAILS of ACADIA NATIONAL PARK and the OCEAN are just a short walk from your door. Fresh water swimming at Echo Lake is just minutes away. This CHARMING COTTAGE is just a mile from the Village of Southwest Harbor and 13 miles from Bar Harbor. The Free Island Explorer Bus service is less than a 10 minute walk.
The living space offers open, skylighted cathedral ceilings; fully equipped kitchen with island for dining, and living room with GAS FIREPLACE; a King bed in the bedroom, and bath with shower and spacious vanity.
After a full day of exploring Acadia return to the Cottage for GRILLING or RELAX Under the STARS by the WOOD BURNING CHIMINEA. Comfy, cushioned Adirondack Chairs, side tables, Hammock, and Perennial Garden.
Includes Wi-Fi, satellite TV DVD, Gas Grill and Outdoor Chimenea.
FULLY EQUIPPED with linens, towels, kitchenware. A Washer/Dryer, Gas grill, storage for bikes, beach chairs, towels, and blankets, are all located on first floor.

The carriage house was perfectly equipped and decorated. There were lots of small details that added to experience and atmosphere. Cyd was an outstanding host. She was very welcoming and hospitable. She was responsive and VERY helpful with local recommendations. There was lots of material available, to inform your exploration of Acadia National Park. We had a great visit!

We can't say enough wonderful things about this property. I usually bring my cleaning supplies with me and somehow forgot this time. The carriage house was spotless. The home is well stocked with anything you may need. The location is the ideal spot for exploring Acadia. The trail through the woods leading you to a short walk to town or a hike to Acadia trails with unbelievable views was an unexpected surprise. We met Ken the day we arrived couldn't have felt more welcomed. Excellent restaurants are close by, and the fully stocked kitchen gave us lots of options for dining in or out. We had the best popovers at the Common Good Soup kitchen. Very friendly staff and you feel good knowing that your donation is helping others in need. We hope to come back to this little gem very soon.

We spent a wonderful week on MDI and Ken & Cyd's carriage house was perfect. It's a very comfortable, immaculate, and well-equipped place for two. It's in a great location just outside of SW Harbor and the rest of the "quiet side". We walked every day, including one day directly from the property to the trail that takes you to Somes Sound. Totally recommend.

Charming and comfortable

We agree with other reviewers about the very nice hosts, and the cleanliness and comfort of the carriage house, which is exactly as advertised. Highlights of our stay included walking to a nearby hike and beach, reading in the hammock under the pines, and enjoying the quiet and peacefulness of the location. We would definitely return.

We had a wonderful stay in Maine! Can’t say enough good things about the place we stayed as well as our hosts Cyd & Ken! Acadia National Park was breathtaking! We look forward to going back some time in the future. If you need a quiet vacation spot close to points of interest, this is it! Thank you Cyd & Ken!

This place was super clean. Most comfortable bed I have ever slept in away from home. Hosts were so helpful and attended to all our needs. It is so beautiful all around the property. Nice fire pit and comfortable chairs.

Beautiful carriage house in the woods, close to Bar Harbor (an easy 15-minute drive) but away from the crowds. The property was clean, well stocked (with all the kitchen utensils and supplies needed to dine in) and well-maintained. Having a brand new washer/dryer was helpful. The property owners provided fire starters for the outdoor fire pit, and plenty of suggestions for good hiking trails and dining options. Fresh flowers in each room was a nice touch.

Beautiful setting close to Acadia trails

Lovely setting- peaceful woods and you feel like you are in the canopy of trees. Located near southwest harbor on the “quiet side” of mount desert island. Highly recommend!

Wonderful property!

We had a great stay at the carriage house. Our hosts provided everything we needed and were friendly and helpful. Great location on the “quiet” side and property was as listed. Would definitely stay again!

Perfect Carriage House

This cottage was so beautiful! It feels like you are in the deep woods, when you are just a couple of miles from the harbor. Great spot for seeing Acadia and all the other harbors around. We enjoyed having a fire in the fire pit. Cyd and Ken were perfect hosts. We hope to return someday! Vacationing from Alabama.

Charming home and location

We loved our stay at the Carriage House. Cyd and Ken, the hosts, live right next door and were welcoming and very fast with responding if we had any questions. The home is beautiful and had everything we needed. We would definitely stay here again if we ever get back to Acadia. We were also very happy to be staying on the quiet side of the island, so much more peaceful. It is also close to quite a few trails, lakes and mountains to enjoy. Highest recommendation, you won't be disappointed with your stay here.

Cozy, beautiful little place

Quiet Getaway

Very clean and well kept carriage home. Hosts were very friendly and had lots of good information and suggestions of things to do on the island. House is on the south western side of Mt. Desert away from Bar Harbor so it is a great spot for someone wanting to be away from the crowds but still close by to the national park. Would highly recommend!

Wonderful cottage- Great location- Perfect for all our vacation plans!

The cottage house is wonderful- super clean and cute, and completely equipped for all our needs. My husband and I were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary- and had a great time! We could come and go for each day's adventure in Acadia and the surrounding area. We'd love to come back in the changing seasons!

Amazing stay in Southwest Harbor!

We just spent two weeks at Cyd and Ken’s wonderful place! They went above and beyond to make our stay amazing. Their place is beautifully decorated (including fresh flowers) and warm and cozy. We enjoyed the fully stocked kitchen, fireplace, comfortable furnishings and great internet access. Trails into town and to Acadia are accessible from their property - quite a treat! They are very responsive to questions/requests. A perfect vacation (thanks Cyd and Ken)!

Wonderful place!

This was our 7th year returning to MDI but our 1st year staying at the Carriage House. Wonderful place. Quiet, peaceful, exceptionally clean, everything you could ask for. Ken and Cyd are wonderful hosts. We will be definitely returning to stay at the Carriage House.

The Carriage House is a true gem on the “Quiet Side” in Southwest Harbor Maine! Cyd and Ken were are wonderful hosts and made us feel so welcome. Little touches like fresh flowers, wood for the fire pit, lots of books and pamphlets on Acadia…I could go on. Everything was wonderful! Honeymoon Retreat

My new husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon as we explored Acadia National park and the Bar Harbor area. The cabin was absolutely perfect! It was very cozy and had everything we needed. Our first night we arrived late in the evening and it was pouring rain, but Cyd and Ken kept the light on for us and made sure we got settled in safely. They also gave us good directions and tips for touring Acadia NP. They were delightful hosts with a diamond of a cabin.
