It sounds like your family made the absolute most of everything Highlands has to offer — grilling, porch sitting, card games, waterfall hikes, and shopping sounds like a perfect mountain itinerary to us! We're so glad the comfortable beds, well stocked kitchen, and clear instructions made everything easy from the start. As for your unexpected reptile visitor — rat snakes are actually great neighbors to have around these parts, completely harmless and very good at keeping the real pests away!
