Enjoy the raw beauty of the Big Island from the luxury of Sunsets and Whales at Kohala Waterfront - a newly built four bedroom residence located above one of the most active whale coves in Hawaii, offering wintertime visitors front-row seats to leaping humpback whales. Completed in 2020 and powered by renewable energy, Sunsets and Whales features state-of-the-art amenities, centralized air conditioning, powerful wifi and a private elevator to meet the needs of the most discerning travelers.

Upon entry upstairs, guests will arrive to a sleek and modern living space perfected by an acclaimed interior designer. The open-concept living space takes advantage of the breathtaking views and features a gorgeous kitchen, dining and living area that can all be opened to the outdoors with accordion lanai doors. The covered lanai spans the entire length of the living space with more outdoor seating and dining options. Upstairs there is a large en-suite master bedroom that accesses the lanai with special touches like a honeymoon bathtub and motion-censor fixtures. Other features of the upstairs include a BBQ area off of the kitchen, a powder bathroom and laundry room.

The downstairs floor plan is all about the large lap pool, hot tub and spacious pool deck that overlooks the Pacific Ocean and Hualalai mountain. Enjoy captivating sunset views and whale watching (seasonal) and lots of space for lounging with the family. There are three bedrooms downstairs, each with an ocean view and walk-out to the pool. On the north end of the downstairs there is a second master bedroom that is separated from the two guest bedrooms (queen beds in each) by a media room. Every bedroom in the home offers an ocean view, private bathroom and smart television.

Enjoy peace and relaxation at Sunsets and Whales at Kohala Waterfront, where the rugged Big Island and world-class luxury come together. (Whale season is from mid-December to late March for visitors wishing to see Alaskan humpback whales up close. )

Beautiful property

Exactly as advertised. Great views, lovely neighborhood and location. Property managers responded to two minor issues within minutes and communication was excellent. Would definitely stay here again.

Gorgeous house overlooking whales!

We had a lovely stay at Sunsets and watched the whales in the ocean from the deck. The pool and sauna were wonderfully restorative. And the house was an excellent home base for our big family vacation.

We enjoyed our 5 day stay here. It was a bit of a drive from shopping, but we enjoyed that aspect of it.

Beautiful view in gated community overlooking the ocean

This is a new home with lovely views of the ocean. On many mornings, we were able to watch the dolphins from the lanai while enjoying our morning coffee. It was well-equipped with coffee filters, a starter supply of coffee and many spices. There are some elements of the home that are a bit unique--1) You can't have any door or window open for more than a minute or the AC turns off for at least a few hours. They have lovely accordion patio door but it was basically unusable as it was too hot to be without AC for any period of time. 2) They don't allow the AC to go below 72 degrees. It was hot when we were there and we are used to sleeping closer to 68 degrees--this made the nights uncomfortable. 3) The water temperature is also turned very low so your shower will be luke-warm vs. hot and have limited water pressure. I can appreciate that this is hyper-eco home but at this price, it felt restrictive. 4) There is one bedroom on the main floor and three in the basement (there is an elevator-which is very nice for those needing assistance with the stair). The layout it a bit odd as two of the bedrooms are connected and you can't get to the second bedroom without going through the first bedroom. This could be great if you have parents with small kids or a group of older kids who want an adjoining room but not great if you have two separate families. Kohala was helpful and responsive to our one major need (AC went out). I would recommend them again.

Beautiful home

Home is a stunning new home on a hillside with beautiful views in a quiet gated neighborhood of 32 homes. About 40 minute ride to the airport. 2 great restaurants at the bottom of the hill about 3 miles away. Grocery store and other stores are about 12 miles away in Wiamea. There is a neighborhood hiking trail along the water which is a beautiful hike for somewhat who is fit. The only negative was the spa needs to be drained and cleaned. None of guests would use it because of its lack of cleanliness.

Views of a lifetime

Our visit was wonderful. The home was well equipped, beautiful, and had space enough for everyone. We did a lot of cooking, especially breakfast and the home had everything we needed, including two coffee makers which came in handy with 8 adults. The appliances were all high-end and you could see pride in ownership from the owner who built this property. I would stay there again with my family.

Beautiful home and amazing views

Home was just exactly what we were looking for. Only issue we had was the floors got dirty very quickly. Guessing from white tile and going in and out from pool deck. Did ask for more TP which never came but went to the local store. Asked twice to see if we could check out later as we had a 9:45 pm flight but no response from management company. Guessing this house is booked often. Overall a fantastic vacation and home for the week!!!

Stunning Views

The house actually does live up to the online photos. The accommodations were awesome. The views and sunsets breath taking. A great vacation rental for families.

Stunning views

This is an amazing house with incredible views. The perfect spot for relaxing in paradise listening to waves crash while sitting by the pool. The home is well furnished with everything you need (appliances for cooking, soaps, towels, paper towels, etc) and the property manager is very responsive. We saw lots of dolphin and would love to visit in the winter to see whales.

Spectacular views in a luxurious home!

This home looks exactly like pictures depict; it's stunning! The 4 bedrooms each have their own bathroom which was nice for our family, but this rental would also be great for couples looking for a luxury rental. We had tons of activities planned around the island, but we hated leaving the house at was so spectacular! We even saw whales while sipping coffee from the lanai. The property mangers were very responsive and readily available. Would definitely recommend this property!
