If you're looking for a family-friendly home in the woods near a babbling creek, consider a stay at Mossy Creek Haus. This lovely getaway features three separate living areas including two with fireplaces and flatscreen TVs plus a third on the enclosed patio where you'll also find Ping-Pong and foosball tables when it's time for a little friendly competition. Prepare anything from your fresh-brewed morning coffee to full-course dinners in the well-equipped, stainless kitchen with a breakfast bar, and then dine together at the adjacent table for six. When night falls, bust out the marshmallows and gather around the firepit outside.

This home is an easy flat drive-in from the Sugar Mountain entrance and the Sugar Mountain Ski Lodge is just half a mile away! There, guests will find an outdoor skating rink, snow tubing, mountain bike tours, and a full golf course. Sightseeing is plentiful in this area as well including the Foggy Mountain Gem Mine, the Mile High Swinging Bridge, and Grandfather State Park. The Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster is a must for thrill-seekers, and it's just under two miles away.

Oktoberfest 2023

This is our second year at this property and we love it. Perfect spot right by the festival with plenty of room for 3 generations to gather, play, and enjoy the sounds of the brook. Just a wonderful space.

Enjoyed our stay at this VRBO, it was convenient to everything we had planned. The house was spacious and had it been a little less rainy we would have had a campfire in the nice area they have outside. Would highly recommend this house.

Nice getaway

We stayed over Thanksgiving. The home is laid out nicely for a large family gathering. Great location to restaurants, skiing, the alpine coaster, hiking, etc.. The home does need some updates to appliances (refrigerator door didn't close fully and oven temperature is off). Overall a good place for a mountain getaway.

Home was plenty big enough for nine people to stay in comfortably. Everything was clean if you’re wondering about that. Only complaint is they didn’t give enough towels and bathroom light kept flickering. Other than that I’d go back to stay again.

To clarify, we provide our guests with a starter kit of supplies. This includes cleaning supplies, toiletries, and paper products. Once these supplies run out it is the responsibility of our guests to provide any additional supplies throughout the remainder of their stay. Supplies are restocked before each guest. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused during your time with us. Towels and other bathroom necessities provided is base on the number of guests that this home can accommodate. Please know that your feedback is essential, and we have passed your comments along to our local manager, who will work with the homeowner to make any updates. Perfect getaway

The Mossy Haus was perfect for us to escape for a few days with our adult children. Each were able to have their own bedroom and bath and the house was set up well, from the games in the solarium, to the multiple big screen tv’s and sofa’s. The kitchen was well stocked and the outdoor grill worked well. We also enjoyed the fire pit! The house was clean and conveniently located to Sugar mountain, Banner Elk and Boone. We had a great stay and will definitely be coming back. JR

Great location to the ski slopes

We rented this house for the family after Christmas. When we arrived the driveway was fully iced over. We were unable to get up the driveway at all for 3 days. It would have been nice for the management company to contact us to let know before we arrived. We were not prepared for this. The fireplaces were also not working. We called customer service who said they would send someone out but no one ever showed. Other than that the house was great and awesome location.

Our housekeeping staff does its best to clear the snow from common areas but occasionally runs out of time. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this caused. We also apologize that the fireplace was not available for your use during your stay. Awesome Trip

The layout of the house was perfect for our group of 6. We came to Ski for a few days and you couldn’t ask for a better location. The house was stocked with all our needs and the beds were comfortable. Great house we will return

Wonderful stay at Thanksgiving

This house was nearly perfect for three couples and three young children. There are some quirks, like the bunk bedroom right off the kitchen, which means it's hard to do anything in the kitchen without waking up sleeping children. Having two bedrooms with king beds was wonderful, as was the two private bathrooms, one a recently added bathroom converted from a closet. And the second living room in the back meant the adults could hang out there in the evening and not disturb the children. The table tennis and foosball table would have been more fun if it hadn't been in the 30's and 40's, so a good-sized space heater would have made it possible to stay out there a little more comfortably. The mountain creek in the back was absolutely beautiful and the children spent a lot of time climbing around and exploring the steep terrain behind the house. The main downside was the kitchen was very poorly stocked, but Vacasa (namely, Sarah) went out on Thanksgiving morning and bought silverware and a generous supply of pots and pans and saved the day. There were 2 little spoons, 5 big spoons, 5 knives, and maybe 6 forks and a small frying pan that had lost its nonstickness and a pot too small to make our chili. Kudos to Sarah! And when they tell you snow tires/chains, they mean it! The driveway is very steep and we were lucky the temps weren't a little colder or the rain would have been snow and we'd have had to park in the gravel lot at Sugar and carry all our things up. We would stay again but unfortunately, two of the parties we were having Thanksgiving with brought dogs that had to stay in their cars. No blame for the owners to decide to remove the pet-friendly addition and if it were just us and coming in the summer, we would probably consider it. It's a good location and a pretty easy in/out of Sugar to go to other places.

Conveniently located

Overall we enjoyed our stay because we weren’t at the house much, the house is in a great location to get to trails, activities, and food easily. Had a few hiccups, no bed linens were on site upon checking in and when we finally received they were dropped off in trash bags for us to do and some towels were still damp in the bags. Next don’t plan to cook many meals, the grill wouldn’t heat up and the kitchen items are minimum. We attempted the gas logs in the living room however the blower sounded like a wind tunnel (probably needs replacing). Luckily we didn’t need to or want to be in the house much with our activities we had planned. And be prepared to have to pay extra for a late checkout ,which we did despite the hiccups in the property management.

Beautiful Fall Weekend

Three generations gathered for Oktoberfest and a wonderful extended time in the mountains. The house was lovely and spacious and had all the amenities we needed. Location was great to enjoy the festival on Sugar (walking distance to the resort!) and as a main base for day trips throughout the area. Only a couple of hiccups with there not being a bunk bed as we saw in the pictures (we shifted kids on couches) and the water being turned off a day early as they thought we'd left (I contacted the utilities company and they sent someone to investigate and got it back on). But no worries--was still a special time (thank you!!)

Beautiful mountain retreat

We came with family group aged 2-76 years and all found it comfortable and cozy. Loved that there are two living room areas and the beds were comfortable which was awesome. Kids loved the bunk beds and they were large enough for us too which was helpful. Linens provided were good quality. Kitchen well stocked. Loved that they also provided complimentary dishwasher tabs and dish soap with new sponge so you don't have to pack those necessities. My kids are already asking when we can go back!

Wonderful

We had the most enjoyable stay at this home. It was so close to sugar mountain and made it perfect for us to sneak away for some night skiing. The beautiful back yard is where we spent most of our time when we were here. The beautiful scenery and sound of the water and nature was unbelievable. The only thing negative I would say is that we couldn't check in earlier due to them stating they needed adequate time to properly clean the house. However we arrived at 4pm as stated and there were empty water bottles under the bed and in the livingroom along with a lot of dust on the dressers and bathroom. The towels smelled smokey and some bedding was stained. But it was nothing a quick little cleaning on our part, to make it feel like home. I would definitely stay here again. And recommend this place to family and friends. We will be back next year to have another amazing family vacation.

Spacious Home

This home had many beds to accommodate a large group of people. Could have been cleaned better as some areas seemed dirtier than others. We also ran out of paper towels, it would have been nice to have cleaning supplies available.
